RECTOR’S REFLECTIONS ear Friends in Christ, As we begin a new year, it is time for us to gather as a parish family. On January 25, immediately after worship, we will have our Annual Meeting. This is a time for us to look back on 2014 to thank God for His guidance and blessings, to ask forgiveness for those failures and disappointments that lead us to acknowledge our dependence on God, and to take stock of the spiritual and fiscal health of our parish. We will also share a meal together and simply enjoy each other’s company. This year’s Annual Meeting also marks the end of elected Vestry terms for three members of our congregation: Doug Fortman, Judy Breitenstein, and Andrea Salisbury. I am grateful to all three of them for their faithful service to the parish. After sixteen years on the Vestry, Doug has chosen not to run for another term. He will, however, continue to maintain our website that serves both the members of our congregation and the community at large. Judy has agreed to run for Warden and Andrea has agreed to run for another three-year term on the Vestry. Cindy Creasy has also agreed to run for a three-year term. This means we have one person for each position available. If there is someone you would like to nominate though, please let me know. Nominations from the floor are always accepted. In addition to electing new members to the Vestry we will present reports on various ministries, as well as a proposed budget for next year. I will also introduce a simple community building game that I think you will enjoy. As well as you know the others in our congregation, you may leave with new insights and information into those you worship with on a regular basis. Barbara joins me in wishing you a blessed and healthy 2015. RECTOR’S REFLECTIONSear Friends in Christ,

As we begin a new year, it is time for us to gather as a parish

family. On January 25 , immediately after worship, we will have our

Annual Meeting . This is a time for us to look back on 2014 to thank

God for His guidance and blessings, to ask forgiveness for those

failures and disappointments that lead us to acknowledge our

dependence on God, and to take stock of the spiritual and fiscal

health of our parish. We will also share a meal together and simply

enjoy each other’s company.

This year’s Annual Meeting also marks the end of elected Vestry

terms for three members of our congregation: Doug Fortman, Judy

Breitenstein, and Andrea Salisbury. I am grateful to all three of them

for their faithful service to the parish. After sixteen years on the Vestry,

Doug has chosen not to run for another term. He will, however,

continue to maintain our website that serves both the members of our congregation and the

community at large. Judy has agreed to run for Warden and Andrea has agreed to run for another

three-year term on the Vestry. Cindy Creasy has also agreed to run for a three-year term. This means we

have one person for each position available. If there is someone you would like to nominate though,

please let me know. Nominations from the floor are always accepted.

In addition to electing new members to the Vestry we will present reports on various ministries, as well

as a proposed budget for next year. I will also introduce a simple community building game that I thinkyou will enjoy. As well as you know the others in our congregation, you may leave with new insights and

information into those you worship with on a regular basis.

Barbara joins me in wishing you a blessed and healthy 2015.

Yours in Christ,

VIEW FROM THE PEWNo Other God

anuary 1, to a multiple of people, means New

Year Resolutions. Some, however, are so

unrealistic they will surely be broken by January

31. Actually the only resolution we really need is

a promise to keep God’s laws. After all, Moses

experienced a great deal of trouble to bring the

Ten Commandments to the attention of the

people.

I got as far as “Thou shalt have no other Gods

before me.” when my thoughts turned to a book I

have read by Jack London, “White Fang”. It is a

story about a wolf cub whose father is killed andhis wolf/dog mother is taken away from him. The

cub is awed by the slight of the first man he sees

and regards him as a god. This first man/god

names him Whit Fang because the cub tries to be

ferocious. The cub, now on his own, continually

regards humans as god although he is treated

cruelly by them. He just feels he has to have a

god for security. At last one of the (false) gods

uses White Fang for dog fights and betting. He is

caged up, clubbed, kicked, beaten and forced

to fight dogs and other wolves. During one of the

fights, he is pitted against a bull dog that finally

gets a relentless grip on the wolf’s throat. Life is

slowly ebbing from White Fang when an

“avenging god” swoops in and forces the animals

apart and rescues him. White Fang is suspicious

of this new god at first, looking for the usual

punishment. Instead he is only treated with love,

kindness and compassion. Following this god’s

new laws, he gradually surrenders his faith,

undying love, devotion and total

commitment. White Fang has at last found the

one true god.

Is it not so with mankind? Does not mankind

also falter, seeking security by blindly following

false gods, even if it means suffering? Unlike

White Fang’s false gods, our lifestyles may beequally debilitating. Our false gods may be

vanity, selfishness, greed, anger, alcoholism, drug

abuse, sex harassment and a number of other

vices.. We must resist the temptations of false

gods and, like Whit Fang, we too must find faith in

the love of a kind compassionate one true God,

surrender our own undying love, devotion, and

total commitment and…..”Love no other God.”

The Epiphany, the 12th day of Christmas, is the

celebration of the manifestation of God’s only

son, Jesus Christ.

You are all always in my prayers.

In His Love,

THE DANIEL PLANBy: Deacon Debbie

aintaining a healthy weight and eating

habits has never been easy for me. As a

child and young adult I was chronically sick due

to a transient immune deficiency disorder, ear

infections, mononucleosis, two bouts of

pneumonia and all the other childhood illnesses.

When I was in my mid-twenties I remember

looking in the mirror one morning and deciding

wearing size 12-14 was no longer acceptable. I
