Prepare, institute and oversee the site construction safety plans (to AS/NZ 4801) for civil infrastructure works projects (bridges, roads, drainage, water reticulation, urban construction, underground service installation, sewage treatment plant and water treatment works, sub-divisions and Council premises(new build; brown field and fit-out), including emergency response plans.

Additional oversight responsibilities on site for site traffic management plans (to Qld MUTCD), site environmental and cultural heritage management and sediment control plans (to AS/NZS 14001) (working with Council’s environmental officer).

Responsible for conducting site specific and Council inductions of subcontractors and review of subcontractors’ work method statements, SOPs etc. to ensure both compliance to legislation and appropriateness to site and activities.

Generation and/or review of Council SWMSs and SOPs through the production of formal risk assessments (JRA/JSEA) and roll-out to staff.

Advise project managers and supervisors of potential or identified risks. Delivery of daily pre-start safety briefings and tool box talks. Liaison with Transport and Main Roads and package managers to identify project

risks through regular risk management sessions. Engagement with local landowners/residents/emergency services to ensure they

are aware of construction activities and any potential disruptions to normal traffic flow.

One major task conducted in conjunction with the above duties was to conduct a gap analysis in regards to safety behaviour, compliance and skill-sets among councils’ workforce and having identified areas of risk, source and deliver appropriate training. This analysis covered all outside staff and their work tasks from provision of prescription safety glasses to confined space documentation to behavioural change in heavy machinery workshops.
