“Letting go” is not always what bereaved people want to do - they often want to “hold onto”.

Clinicians talked about the need to “let go” perhaps because they looked at “unhealthy” rather than healthy responses to grief.

We need to find ways to “relocate” the deceased (in our heart, in heaven, in our memories, in our bodies, in our family…)

Mourning is often about identification - finding a place for the deceased in one’s sense of self

Sharing stories, memories, photographs … keeps the connection and the reality of the relationship alive

This theory re-affirms the need of bereaved children to have “opportunities to remember”.

Grief is never finished it evolves through our personal development, growth and life cycle
