God doesnt have a predetermined listin heaven that we have to figure out if

were going to have a Spirit-ledworship service. The will of God is nota song list.

Emphasis should be placed uponbuildinga persons relationship with

God. The wise leader thus builds a service

song list in such a way as to best

    achieve this emphasis.

Worship is a journey, from point "A" -which is us down here - to point "Z" -

which is the presence of God.Therefore, our song list should befashioned in this manner.

    A. Follow A Theme

This is very helpful in preparing songsthat will support the subject of the

pastors sermon. Sorge also says,Songs may not necessarily strictlyfollow the theme but they can cleverly

reflect the theme allowing theexpansion of ideas that connects withthe theme.

    B. Know Your

Congregation Different worshipers will have different

needs. In selecting songs for worship,

it is most important to know that thesongs will help the people worshipGod and respond to Him faithfully.

    C. Seek Gods Guidance

We must never choose a song just becausewe like it or because we have a particular

person in mind. Songs must be carefullyselected in order for the body to praise andworship God. It is important to understandthat corporate worship is not the same as

    the individuals worship experience.

    D. Choose Appropriate

Keys Before writing the sequence of songs,

imagine how a chord moves and then

modify the music for the band. Makesure it is comfortable for the band tomake chord modulations, etc. It is alwaysimportant for the worship team to be

aware of the transition from one key tothe next. One must keep in mind thatsome key changes are easier thanothers.

    E. Decide on the Order or

Sequence of Songs Generally, people are drawn toward

    singing up-tempo, celebrative songs near

the beginning of the service. Then thepeople can be led into slower songs ofintimacy and exaltation (Five PhaseModel). However, the team must realize

that this is not a set formula. This ordercan be reversed, starting with meditativesongs and building to a celebrativemood.

The song list is not sacred, nor is theorder of songs engraved in heaven.

    Bob Sorge

It is the Holy Spirit and not the teammembers who lead the worshipers;the team members are just prompters.
