Intern Involvement

Choose Life Today is a grassroots self-help group in Nairobi’s Kibera slum consisting of 10 members affected or infected by HIV/AIDS. The group started in 2006 as a safe space for the women to gather over tea and a bible study for support, and has ever since been changing and evolving.

Choose Life Today creates a variety of beautiful fabric and beadwork products, ranging from backpacks and clutches to necklaces and children’s dolls. Choose Life Today is excited to share their cur-rent products with you. Every purchase builds confidence and motivates the ladies further to create positive change for them-selves, their family, and their community.

Nicola Paviglianiti and Adrian Noronha felt a deep calling to collaborate with Choose Life Today, and after their formal Western Internship was terminated, they found meaning in the project. Their ontributions include:

- Weekly lunches & regular meetings to build trust & relationships with ladies and the Kibera community- Mentorship & business advice- Professional photography- Conducted interview profiles for promotion- Startup sponsorship- Purchase of a new sewing machine- Creation of a product catalogue- Logo design and the creation of a product label. - Creation of a company email address - Market and purchase support and distribution

The women of Choose Life Today are empowering themselves & addressing the need for employment &community sustainability. Together, they have trained themselves in both sewing and beadwork, and have established a wide range of unique products.

Each woman brings a special talent to the group and has a story and journey of how they found themselves at Choose Life Today, and how they are continuing to create a life for themselves.
