Lectures: Wednesday 5-7 pm, Sept. 15 -Dec. 8, 2010 in LM 157

Course coordinator: Professor Dwight Seferos, e-mail: [email protected] Office hours: Thursday, 5-7 pm, LM628, by appointment

Evaluation: 3 h final exam, TBA 45%

Participation in discussion(s) 15%

Oral presentation of term topic 20%

Term topic 20%

Discussions are led by students and allow you to discuss reading assignments in

detail and you will be evaluated on your participation

Oral presentation and term papers should be given on the same topic, related to

advanced polymer materials, NOT RELATED to your research area or any research

project in the group.

Text: there is no single book covering the material included in this course.

Each lecturer will provide recommended reading.

Oral presentation

• PPT format• 15 min + 3-5 min questions (will be discussed later)• At least 2 class instructors will be evaluating the presentations• The topic has to be chosen by a student. NO PRESENTATION can be given on the topic that is in the scope of research in the student’s research group.

• Dates: Beginning on Nov. 17th, Order to be chosen by October 13, 2010.

•The evaluation will be based on:Novelty and complexity of presented work 20 %Understanding of the material 20 %Oral presentation 20 %Answers to questions 20 %Quality of slides 20 %

Suggestions for your term topic presentation

• Do not start working at the end of November!

• Do not exceed 15 slides

• Focus on 2-3 papers (do not try to embrace a huge project)

• Try to understand (and explain) EVERY slide you show• Structure: Introduction (current state of art in the field)

Justification of the project(s)

The main body of the proposal (system, methods, results, their

interpretation, etc)

Your assessment of the results, comparison, etc…
