4. The early alchemists attempted to turn base metal into gold and create an elixir of life. Nuclear chemistry explains what defines different atoms as distinct from each other and provides ways to convert atoms into isotopes and form different substances from different reactions, which shares some commonalities with the alchemists. Dalton played a role in helping to define nuclear chemistry and shed light on chemical concepts like atoms, bonds between elements and atoms as well as explaining chemical reactions.

4. Beta particles are the equivalent of electrons, only they are emitted from the nucleus of radioactive elements.

9. The energy from the mass defect of U-235 can cause more neutrons to be produced than were present initially which allows for the fission to be self-sustaining.

16. I would say to him that the steam from a nuclear power plant cannot become radioactive and that he would actually be exposed to more radiation living the same proximity from a coal power plant.

19. When speaking of radioactive waste, half-life is important because it provides a way to calculate the rate at which radioisotopes will decay and high-level radioactive waste is composed of radioisotopes.
