chi.ac.uk/engineering ENGINEERING AND DESIGN
“The course is challenging but it's making me change and adapt my thinking. Being able to make designs and parts for projects is really exciting and rewarding as I can see my skills growing as my knowledge expands. The department staff are really supportive and listen actively to the group. The teaching is really engaging and accessible and the tutors link the syllabus to things that interest us.” Louise, BEng Mechanical Engineering

Our engineering and design degrees are modern and industrially relevant courses that are accessible and challenging. Based in our new £35 million-pound Tech Park, students have access to state-of-the-art equipment and specialist spaces. Each of our Engineering degrees are constructed with input from industry to ensure that our programmes are up-to-date, industrially relevant and meet graduate employer expectations. Programmes are delivered through seminars and tutorials, practical labs, computer classes and team project work to provide a solid base for the more advanced concepts you will encounter in your chosen degree programme. All our Engineering degrees follow the ‘Conceive – Design – Implement – Operate’ (CDIO) problem-based learning approach, providing a practical and engaging experience that encourages interdisciplinary teamworking to solve open-ended problems and foster communication skills. These skills and experience will help you stand out in a competitive employment arena: www.cdio.org Our aim is to bring together the areas of engineering and design to produce graduates with technical skills, specialist technical knowledge and the confidence to be creative. Professor Stuart Harmer, Head of Department of Engineering
