I spent most of this sorting through old things and seeing if I can make a bit of space. It sounds hard work, but I enjoyed it! I’m in a cleaning and sorting mood now...! I hope you’re keeping your rooms tidy! – Laurence Hey Year 5, I hope you and your families are well. Like Laurence, I have been busy clearing out cupboards and recycling what I can. I hope you’re all trying to learn something new every day....if not then let that be a challenge for you! Take care and see you soon – Tracey Hi you lovely lot, I hope you and your families are safe and well. I’ve had some time to read this week and I’m really enjoying a book called ‘The Wild Robot’ – hopefully I can read it to you when we get back to school! I’ve also had more time to be able to catch up with my family and friends over zoom calls which is keeping my spirits up! – Miss Bunton Hola Year 5! I've spent the week doing some online courses and researching different things. But I've also had time to catch up with friends and family, I really miss them, so it's great that we can keep in touch online! Hope you are all keeping safe and busy :) – Bea Hi Year 5, We finally managed to compete our 1000 piece jigsaw, only to find out that we had 999 pieces (I’m blaming the cats). I’ve been trying to get Lula into my ‘old’ music and I’m still painstakingly scraping the paint off out house. Hope you guys are keeping busy. – Mr Leser

Chisenhale Chatter for Year 5 Thursday 7th May 2020

This week’s chatter follows on from last week. We are continuing with ‘The

Kingdom Revealed’ in Guided Reading and Literacy and in Maths, we will be

revisiting some of the areas of maths that we have covered earlier in the

year.

This chatter is slightly longer as we are reducing the amount of separate

documents needed. ‘The Kingdom Revealed’ extracts needed for this weeks

Guided Reading and Literacy will be in a separate document for you to read.

BBC Bitesize, White Rose Hub Maths and other fun learning links will be at

the end of this chatter.

There are some changes with White Rose Hub Maths this week, please find

more information near the end of the chatter.

Happy learning!

Here are a few updates from the staff in Year 5 staff this week:

Hi Year Five! Hope you’ve all had a great

week. I spent most of this sorting through

old things and seeing if I can make a bit

of space. It sounds hard work, but I

enjoyed it! I’m in a cleaning and sorting

mood now...! I hope you’re keeping

your rooms tidy! – Laurence

Hey Year 5, I hope you and your families

are well. Like Laurence, I have been busy

clearing out cupboards and recycling what

I can. I hope you’re all trying to learn

something new every day....if not then let

that be a challenge for you! Take care and

see you soon – Tracey

Hi you lovely lot, I hope you and your

families are safe and well. I’ve had some

time to read this week and I’m really

enjoying a book called ‘The Wild Robot’ –

hopefully I can read it to you when we

get back to school! I’ve also had more

time to be able to catch up with my

family and friends over zoom calls which

is keeping my spirits up! – Miss Bunton Hola Year 5! I've spent the week doing

some online courses and researching

different things. But I've also had time to

catch up with friends and family, I really

miss them, so it's great that we can keep in

touch online! Hope you are all keeping safe

and busy :) – Bea

Hi Year 5, We finally managed to compete

our 1000 piece jigsaw, only to find out

that we had 999 pieces (I’m blaming the

cats). I’ve been trying to get Lula into my

‘old’ music and I’m still painstakingly

scraping the paint off out house. Hope you

guys are keeping busy. – Mr Leser

Literacy Hour (Guided Reading, Literacy & SPaG) Activity 1: Read page 38 & 39. In bullet points, summarise what the young King (John) finds out about his Father. Activity 2: young Theresa (Angelo & Theresea’s daughter) mentions on page 39 about how she wrote to the young King’s father – the King (when he was alive) – when she was being bullied and that he replied. What do you think a King’s response would be when finding out that one of his people – a young girl – was having a horrible time at school because she was being bullied? Write what you think the King would have replied. Think about how formal this letter would be, and how a King would articulate himself. This can start you off: Dear young Theresa, I am terribly sorry to hear that you are having a troublesome time at school…. Activity 3: BBC Bitesize Writing a formal report

A discussion for at home this week:

This week we will be continuing our reflection on the value Resilience by

exploring Resilience and World Press Freedom Day.

The press refers to all those people who write articles for newspapers, online

or prepare and present news channels.

In difficult times such as these the press are very important for providing

everyone with public health information and the latest government advice.

Article 17 of the rights of the child says: Every child has the right to

reliable information from a variety of sources.

However, due to social media there are now a lot of people sharing

information that has not been verified by a reputable news source and even

some news sites that may not check their information properly.

This can lead to untrue and even dangerous information being spread by

people who believe they are helping others.

As such, it is important that all of us check carefully information we are

reading online and sharing.

UNESCO have released a short video advising you how to check your

sources to mark World Press Freedom Day: https://youtu.be/z7hvv3z1gqc

This week, please look at news sources like Newsround online

(https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround) and talk about what you can learn there.

Perhaps some of you are budding journalists and you can write a

newspaper report on your time in lockdown.

Hot Air Balloons

Where in the world might you travel? What might you see? Will it look different from a distance? Who travelled first in a hot air balloon? What might it be like to travel in a hot air balloon? What would you take with you? How far will you travel? How might the weather change as you travel? Will the temperature change at night? If so, why? How would you design your balloon? Poetry Can you create your own poem about hot air balloons?

Hot Air Balloon I’m leaving town I’ll be back soon I’m taking a ride in a hot air balloon. The noise is loud when the burners fire. The heat takes me up higher and higher. I float in the sky. It’s a wonderful thing. Now I know why flying birds sing. Joy Acey

Hot Air Balloon I saw a hot air balloon flying over my house: Most of the time, it was as quiet as a mouse, But, every so often, its burners suddenly roared, And higher, up into the sky, it suddenly soared. My excitement, I found hard to keep at bay, As, a hot air balloon, you don't see every day. A passenger balloon floating through the air,

For me, is so special, as the sight is so rare. The sight of the balloon, filled me with delight, And I stood watching it, until it flew out of sight. My eyes were stuck to the balloon, just like glue, As it floated across a sky of cornflower blue. I wonder what it's like to float through the sky, Watching the world down below gliding on by. I've always wanted to ride in a hot air balloon: I hope I will one day, and I hope that it's soon. Angela Wybrow
