Chiquita has been in a variety of nursing roles over the last 32 years. Since 2003, Chiquita has held the Director of Nursing Primary Health Care: Health Care Development role at MidCentral DHB. Chiquita has been seconded by Central PHO as Clinical Executive Director since 2011 to enable closer integration of services to achieve the best possible health outcomes. Bruce has been a General Practitioner in Feilding for 20 years. He has wide interests in general practice including minor surgery, vasectomies, geriatric medicine and palliative care.
Continuing his palliative care interest, Bruce worked as a general practice representative on the initial working party which lead to the Palliative Care Partnership (PCP) initiative. He was the lead author for the NZMA publication reporting the success of the PCP NZMJ 22 Sept 2006 Vol 119 No 1242 and continues to work on the PCP management group. Bruce has been involved with other PCP management group members in numerous presentations of the PCP to DHB and health care groups in New Zealand.
Bruce was the founding Chairman of the Manawatu Independent Practitioner Association (MIPA), holding this position for six years. He also served as a general practice representative on the Manawatu Primary Health Organisation (PHO) establishment committee and served on the interim Manawatu PHO Board.
Bruce is currently involved in the establishment of an ‘Integrated Family Health Centre’ in the Feilding community and is a shareholder Director of the new management company for the IFHC.
Since 2013 he has been a member of the Central PHO Trust Board and has been the Chairperson of the Board since July 2013.
Since September 2013 he has held the position of ‘Medical Director, Primary Care’ for the MidCentral District Health Board – a strategy, planning and support position which also provides clinical oversight to Central PHO management.
Outside of medicine Bruce has a keen interest in his family and participates in motorsport as a doctor and competitor in classic care and endurance racing events.

Qualifying as a doctor 31 years ago, Jeff Brown has worked for more than 21 years as a General Paediatrician at Palmerston North Hospital. He continues to look after the wide range of emergency and long term problems and children ranging from tiny premature babies to adolescents with multiorgan disease. During his career, he has taken on many servant‐leader roles, by failing to say no when asked, at departmental, hospital, DHB and national levels, both inside and outside medicine. He is Clinical Director Child Health for the District Health Board, is a board member of the National Health Board, chairs Advanced Paediatric Life Support NZ, and National President of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists for 10 years. He led the development of “in Good Hands”, guidance to help DHBs introduce greater clinical leadership into the public health service. He finds time to play, umpire and officiate hockey in New Zealand and overseas.

BARBARA BRADNOCK Portfolio Manager, Child and Youth Health

Barb has a 30 year career in the health industry as a registered nurse working focused on emergency medicine and general practice.
Following the introduction of the Meningococcal B Programme for New Zealand in 2005, Barb moved into a newly created role at the District Health Board responsible for child and youth health. This extended to encompass Maternal Health and some areas of Womens Health across the both the hospital setting and primary care. Barb’s career interests have further extended to integrating services in the community, reducing family violence and leading clinical teams towards excellence. Nationally, Barb has contributed to significant work within the Children’s Commissioner Child and Youth Compass and sits on the Well Child Advisory Group for the Ministry of Health.
DEBBIE DAVIES RN, MPhil. (Nursing)

Debbie provides leadership for a range of initiatives including those centred on enhancing clinical integration and developing sustainable models of care within the evolving PHC context in New Zealand. Debbie has extensive involvement in service development and delivery within the general practice arena and latterly spanning PHC environments.
Debbie is trained as a Programme Leader in the Productive Series and led the pilot of Productive Community Service (PCS) within MidCentral District Health Board in 2010/11. Since late 2012 Debbie is the Programme Lead for Productive General Practice implementation both within MidCentral DHB and nationally.
Debbie has extensive governance experience across the last decade serving on IPA (Independent Practitioners Association) and PHO (Primary Healthcare Organisation) governance boards, and as a Director on the New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO).

Esther is a partner in a busy general practice in Palmerston North, New Zealand. Prior to studying medicine she completed her nursing training in New Zealand, and midwifery in Stirling, Scotland.
She has special interest in improving care of the elderly, and coordinating care for complex patients, trying to improve health outcomes, on both an individual and population basis.
Esther is also involved in general practice training, at both undergraduate and post graduate level.
JO SMITH Senior Portfolio Manager, Health of Older People

A 25‐year career in management services for older people, including aged residential care, home and community services, Needs Assessment services and Project Management. Jo has a Master’s Degree in Management (Health Service Management) and undertakes ongoing study in her field. Jo’s contribution includes research published in 2013 related to user experience of electronic assessment tools in the aged care sector. Additional roles have included small governance in rural locally managed health services, development of specialist clinical health of older people teams, and change management/implementation of an electronic assessment tool.
Jo’s current role at MidCentral District Health Board includes portfolio, staff and project management including strategic and operational management. In addition, leading a 14 member Needs Assessment and Service Coordination team, focused on integrating relationships between sectors for improved quality and better client experiences. Successful track record in client driver sectors requiring a strong client focus.

Joanne Saxe is currently the General Manager of Radius Medical The Palms, the region’s largest A&M and General Practice. Joanne is a founding member of Radius Medical with over 20 years experience of the health industry.

Julie Robinson is currently the Director of Nursing at Bay of Plenty District Health Board based in Tauranga. Julie has a B.A (Social Sciences majoring in Nursing) with a Masters in Health Management.
As a registered nurse Julie worked in a range of clinical specialties including Critical Care, Coronary Care, Operating Theatre and Post Anaesthetic Care. Julie has been in nursing leadership and management positions for the last 20 years.
As Director of Nursing Julie has responsibility for 1400 nurses, midwives and health care assistants across Tauranga and Whakatane hospitals in the Bay of Plenty.

Lyn has been in a variety of nursing and management roles over the last 35 years. Since 2009, Lyn has held the role of Operations Director, Hospital Services, MidCentral DHB. MURRAY GEORGEL Chief Executive Officer, Midcentral District Health Board
Murray has been MidCentral District Health Board’s CEO since 1999. Originally joining the organization in 1994, he undertook several roles prior to becoming the CEO.
The DHB has undergone major change particularly in Primary Care capacity, capability and integration and moving secondary care to sound financial best.
The organization is now exploring future service models and associated facilities.
Prior to joining the health sector Murray gained considerable management and leadership experience across a wide range of industries – in both the public and private sectors, including primary production, tourism, pharmaceuticals and social services.
Murray has had, and maintains, governance roles in health related organisations plus community and privately owned entities.

Oriana is the Chief Executive of Rangitane o Tamaki nui a Rua Inc., a tribally based organization charged with health, social, economic and cultural development. Oriana has a background in community development and worked across the health sector in a number of areas – public health including health promotion and education, research, secondary care and primary and community care primarily with a focus on indigenous health and wellbeing. Oriana represents Maori health leadership in MidCentral DHB at both a governance and executive leadership level.

Paul graduated in 1982. Wide experience in many areas of medical practice with the last 23 years in General Practice. Positions have included 14 years as a partner in moderate to large private practice and six years as a rural GP on the West Coast, South Island. Returned to the Manawatu in 2012 and employed in a full‐time position by Central PHO from January 2013. Current role involves the provision of clinical leadership at Foxton Family Health Centre and assisting with the development of an Integrated Community Health Centre (due to open mid‐2014). Clinical supervision of Nurse Practitioner and International Medical Graduates. Work one day per week in Emergency Department, Palmerston North Hospital with focus on opportunities for integration of primary and secondary acute services. Other roles: member of District Groups in Palliative Care and Urgent Care with a focus on development of integrated care pathways and acute care options in the community.

Sandra has been in a variety of management and leadership roles over the last 12 years within primary health care. In 2003 she was instrumental in establishing the first Primary Health Organisation (PHO) within the MidCentral area. Since then she has held a number of service development and integration roles within primary care. In late 2013 Sandra was seconded to the role of GM PHO Owned General Practices based in Levin. Sandra oversees the functions of three general practices and the local after‐hours service. Sandra is an active executive leadership team member for the PHO.

TRACEY McNEUR Practice Nurse

Tracey has worked in a variety of clinical areas since graduating as a Registered Comprehensive Nurse in 1993. These have included both secondary and primary health care settings. Tracey is currently working as a practice nurse with a specialty interest in diabetes and chronic conditions. Tracey is undertaking her Masters in Nursing through Massey University.

CRAIG JOHNSTON
Senior Portfolio Manager, Primary Health Care

Craig works in the planning and funding team and has responsibility for primary health care portfolio. He has been extensively involved in both strategic and operational aspects of the DHB’s 10‐year investment in the development of primary health care.
Craig’s interests revolve around the organisation of service delivery, particularly how to achieve change. In 2005 he received a Foxley Fellowship which provided study leave to investigate change in general practice. He has used this experience to promote increasing accountabilities and incentives for general practice teams to achieve improved population health outcomes.
Craig lives on two acres of land in Feilding. He has two sons, both of whom have left home. He enjoys running.
