Chinte 珍手
The usual translations for the Kata Chinte are Unusual Hands, Amazing Hands and Weird Hands.
This is because of the many unusual hand techniques used which rarely found in other Katas e.g. the two finger
strike, the scissor punch, the extended finger joint strike and upper level elbow strikes.
Ready Position
Start Position
Feet Together (Heisoku Dachi)
Bring your Right foot into your Left foot - Feet together
Place your Left fist against your stomach area - palm facing up
Put your Right fist on top of your Left fist - knuckles facing away from you
Hammerfist Strike (Tettsui Uchi) Feet Together (Heisoku Dachi)
Keep your feet together
Breathe in deeply through your nose
Look to your Right towards 3 o'clock
Rotate your Right fist so your knuckles are facing towards you
Raise your Right fist up in front of your face until your Right arm is almost fully extended
Bring your extended arm down in a sweeping arc towards 3 o'clock, finishing with your arm straight, horizontal and in line with your shoulder
This technique is performed slowly (3 - 4 seconds) with muscle tension from the start but increasing in intensity towards the end of the move
Breathe out through your mouth throughout the technique
Mid Position Move - Feet Together (Heisoku Dachi)
Bring your Right fist back in and place it under your Left fist knuckles towards the floor
Turn your Left fist so your knuckles face away from you
Turn your head to face 12 o'clock
Hammerfist Strike (Tettsui Uchi) Feet Together (Heisoku Dachi)
Keep your feet together
Breathe in deeply through your nose
Look to your Left towards 9 o'clock
Rotate your Left fist so your knuckles are facing towards you
Raise your Left fist up in front of your face until your Left arm is almost fully extended
Bring your extended arm down in a sweeping arc towards 9 o'clock, finishing with your arm straight, horizontal and in line with your shoulder

Rising Knife Hand Block (Awase Shuto Age Uke) in Horse Stance (Kiba Dachi)
Step forward towards 12 o'clock with your Left foot, finishing in Kiba Dachi facing towards 3 o'clock
Raise both open hands up in front of your face - palms facing away from you - arms extended
Your Left hand fingers finish on top of your Right hand fingers and the tips of your thumbs touch each other
This forms a triangle shape between your thumbs and first finger of each hand
This triangle should be just above your eye line so you have to look up slightly to see through it
This move is very quick
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Pause slightly before going on to the next technique
Vertical Ridge Hand Block (Tate Shuto Uke) in Rooted Stance (Fudo Dachi)
Breathe in deeply through your nose
Look towards 6 o'clock
Step across to the 7.30 clock position with your Right foot
This will give you a wide Fudo Dachi position facing towards 6 o'clock
Make sure your Left knee is bent
Focus forward with your left hand and bring your Right open hand under your left shoulder
As your Right foot reaches its stance position, slowly push forward with the outside edge of your Right open hand towards 6 o'clock - fingers pointing upwards, return your Left fist to your Left hip
This move is slow (about 3 seconds) with muscle tension during the arm movement
Breathe out through your mouth during the technique
Tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Vertical Fist Reverse Punch (Tate Ken Gyaku Zuki) in Zenkutsu Dachi
Keep your feet still but straighten your Left leg, finishing in a Front Stance facing 6 o'clock
Punch with your Left fist into the palm of your Right open hand
Do not do a full twist of your fist as you would normally do with a punch, just do a half twist finishing with the thumb side of your Left hand facing towards the ceiling
The fingers of your open Right hand are circled around your Left fist
This move is performed extremely quick, which is exaggerated by the slowness of the moves around it
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Pause slightly before going on to the next technique

Rising Elbow Strike (Age Empi Uchi) in Front Stance (Zenkutsu Dachi)
KIAI!!
Keep your feet still but straighten your Left leg, finishing in a Front Stance facing 6 o'clock
Strike upwards to head height with your Left elbow
Your Left fist will finish next to your Left ear, palm facing towards your ear
Bring your Right hand back towards your head, striking into the angle made between your Right thumb and first finger with the top of your Left elbow
The palm of your open Right hand is facing towards 6 o'clock (don’t lay flat on left forearm)
This move is performed extremely quick, which is exaggerated by the slowness of the moves around it
KIAI loudly and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Go straight on to the next technique
Low Knife Hand Block (Gedan Shuto Uke) in Back Stance (Kokutsu Dachi)
Step across a few inches with your back (Left) foot to the 12 o'clock position then pivot around to face 12 o'clock in Back Stance
As you complete the turn into Back Stance, strike forward and down to a low position with the outside ridge of your open Left hand
The whole of your Left arm should be straight
Your Right open hand is placed just above your belt area as in the standard Shuto Uke position (Sometimes this is done with the Right arm also straight and to a low position, just under the Left arm)
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Knife Hand Block (Shuto Uke) in Back Stance (Kokutsu Dachi)
Bring your Right foot straight in to your Left foot. Carry it on past your Left foot in a straight line towards the 12 o'clock direction. Your heels should finish in a straight line.
As you bring your feet together, bring your Right hand up to your Left shoulder and stretch your Left hand towards 12 o'clock, palm down.
As you step forward, push your Left arm and hip forward, keeping your Right hand at your shoulder until just before your feet land in the correct position
Make sure you step in a straight line keeping most of your body weight over your back leg - step to the 12 o'clock position
As your Right foot touches the finish position, bring your Right hand forward quickly from your shoulder to finish with your fingertips in line with your shoulder and your arm bent to 90 degrees. At the same time bring your Left hand quickly back to just below your solar plexus - hand open - palm facing upward
Your elbow should be no higher than your lower ribs
Pull your rear shoulder back, so your chest and rear shoulder are hidden from someone facing you
Make sure your front leg is slightly bent, toes pointing forward, and your back leg is bent, knee pointing slightly backwards
Most of your body weight should be over your back leg. You should be able to lift your front leg to kick without pulling your body weight backwards
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Front Kick (Mae Geri)
Kick forward towards 12 o'clock with the ball of your Left foot
Keep your hands in the same position as the previous technique
Partial breath out and carry straight on to the next technique
Double Arm Block (Kosa Uke) in Front Stance (Zenkutsu Dachi)
Step backwards from the kick with your Left leg towards the 7.30 clock position, landing in a wide front stance facing towards 12 o'clock
As you step back, bring your Left fist to your Right shoulder and straighten your Right arm forward and downwards towards the Gedan position
As your Left foot reaches its stance position
Bring your Left arm down, striking to the Gedan Barai position and
Bring your Right arm up into an under the arm Uchi Uke block - elbow bent to 90 degrees
Do not spread your arms too far apart - your elbows should be shoulder width apart
Your Left fist should be about 6 inches higher than the forward knee and your Right fist should finish no higher than the shoulder
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Low Hammerfist Strike (Gedan Tettsui Uchi) Feet Together (Heisoku Dachi)
Bring your Left foot forward into your Right foot - feet together facing 12 o'clock
As your Left foot comes forward, swing your Right fist round to your Left side, around in a large circle over your head and in front of you.
Your Right fist finishes in front of you, below your belt height, palm facing away from you
Bring your Left fist back to your Left hip
Breathe in through your nose as your Right fist travels around in the circle
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Low Knife Hand Strike (Gedan Morote Shuto Uchi) in Horse Stance (Kiba Dachi)
Swing both open hands to your Left, arms extended
Raise your arms over your head in a large circle
Turn your Right shoulder back towards 6 o'clock and as your arms come down from your head swing them towards 6 o'clock
Step back towards 6 o'clock with your Right foot into Kiba dachi - chest facing 3 o'clock
As your Right foot reaches its stance position, swing both open hands forward towards 12 o'clock into Low (Gedan) positions
Your Right palm is facing up, Left palm down
Breathe in through your nose as your arms perform the circular moves
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Low Knife Hand Strike (Gedan Morote Shuto Uchi) in Horse Stance (Kiba Dachi)
Turn your head to look towards 6 o'clock
Swing both open hands down in front of you and forward towards 6 o'clock
Carry on the circular movement of your arms above your head, down to your Left, then forward again towards 6 o'clock
As your hands come up to the end of the technique, shuffle forward towards 12 o'clock a few inches by pushing forward with your Right foot towards 12 o'clock - stay in Kiba Dachi
Your Right palm is facing down, Left palm up - both facing 6 o'clock
Breathe in through your nose as your arms perform the circular moves
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Double Outside Block (Ryowan Uchi Uke) in Horse Stance (Kiba Dachi)
Shuffle forward a few inches towards 12 o'clock by pushing forward with your Right foot - Stay in Kiba Dachi facing 3 o'clock
Breathe in through your nose as you move
Make your hands into fists and cross them in front of your chest - Right arm in front
Uncross both arms to either side. Make sure they do not separate too far. Your fists should be in line with your shoulders, shoulder width apart
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Arms to the Side (Ryowan Gamae) in Crane Stance (Tsuru Ashi Dachi)
Still facing towards 3 o'clock
Bring your Right foot up behind your Left knee - standing now only on your Left leg
As your Right foot comes in, cross both arms above your head, across in front of your body and to either side
This move in medium speed (about 3 seconds)
Breathe in through your nose as you raise your arms
Breathe out through your mouth towards the end of the move
No muscle tension
Pause for a moment before going on to the next technique
Dropping Knuckle Strike (Ippon Ken Otoshi) in Front Stance (Zenkutsu Dachi)
Swing your Right arm behind you, over your head then drop your fist down from this high position towards 3 o'clock
As your Right arm begins to drop, step forward to the 4.30 clock position with your Right foot. This will give you a wide front stance facing towards 3 o'clock
Keep your Right arm straight during this move
Keeping your fist closed, extend the middle joint of your Right middle finger forward, striking downwards
Bring your Left fist to your Left hip
Breathe out partially and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Preparation
Dropping Knuckle Strike (Ippon Ken Otoshi) in Front Stance (Zenkutsu Dachi)
Same stance position as the previous move
Keep your Right arm still
Swing your Left arm behind you, over your head then drop your fist down from this high position down onto the back of your Right fist
Shape your Left fist as you did with the previous technique - with the middle joint of your Left middle finger extended out
This extended middle finger joint will finish pointing downwards onto the back of your Right fist, just behind the Right middle knuckle
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Preparation
Two Finger Strike (Nihon Nukite Uchi Uke) in Front Stance (Zenkutsu Dachi)
Same stance position as the previous technique
Bring your Right hand to your Left hip - straighten and extend the first 2 fingers out of your Right fist as you do so
Swing your Right hand back around towards 3 o'clock into an Uchi Uke position
Your two extended fingers are at shoulder height and pointing upwards and away from you at about 45 degrees
Pull your Left fist back to your Left hip
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Two Finger Strike (Nihon Nukite Uchi Uke) in Front Stance (Zenkutsu Dachi)
Step forward to the 1,30 clock position with your Left foot. This will give you a wide front stance facing towards 3 o'clock
Strike forward towards 3 o'clock with the first two extended fingers of your Left hand
Pull your Right fist back to your Right hip
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Two Finger Strike (Nihon Nukite Uchi Uke) in Front Stance (Zenkutsu Dachi)
Pull your Left foot back into your Right foot then carry it on past your Right foot towards the 7.30 clock position
This will give you a wide front stance facing 9 o'clock
As you are performing the turn, bring your Left hand up under your Right arm, and stretch your Right hand towards 9 o'clock
As you complete the turn, push your Right arm and hip forward, keeping your Left fist under your Right arm until just before your feet land in the correct position
As your Left foot reaches the stance position, swing your Left arm forward and around your Right arm, finishing with the fist directly in line with your chest, knuckles facing away from you - first 2 fingers of your left hand extended forward as in the previous technique
Your Left elbow will be bent at 90 degrees
Pull your Right hip back - Push your Left hip forward
At the same time bring your Right hand quickly back to your waist - palm facing upward
Make sure your front leg is bent with your knee over your toes, and your back leg is straight and locked
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Two Finger Strike (Nihon Nukite Uchi Uke) in Front Stance (Zenkutsu Dachi)
Step forward to the 10,30 clock position with your Right foot. This will give you a wide front stance facing towards 9 o'clock
Strike forward towards 9 o'clock with the first two extended fingers of your Right hand
Pull your Left fist back to your Left hip
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Palm Strike (Teisho Uchi) in Rooted Stance (Fudo Dachi)
Bring your Right foot into your Left foot then step out to the 7.30 clock position into Fudo Dachi
This will give you a wide stance facing 6 o'clock
When you are bringing your Right foot in, pull your Right fist in to your Right hip
As you are stepping forward into your finished stance position, push forward towards 6 o'clock with the palm of your Right hand
Keep your Left fist on your Left hip
This is a medium speed move (about 2 - 3 seconds)
Breathe in through you nose as you step in and out through your mouth as you step out
Palm Strike (Teisho Uchi) in Front Stance (Zenkutsu Dachi)
Breathe in through your nose
Same foot position as the previous move - just lock your Left leg straight into front stance
Keep your Right hand in the same position
Push the palm of your Left hand forward from your Left hip towards 6 o'clock
The inside of both wrist should finish touching with the fingers of either hand facing away from each other
Breathe out completely and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Reverse Double Roundhouse Knuckle Strike (Ushiro Morote Ippon Ken) in Front Stance (Zenkutsu Dachi)
Same foot position as the previous move
Lean forward as far as possible over your Right knee
Swing both hands back behind you towards 12 o'clock
Shape both hands with the middle joint of the middle fingers protruding from the fist
These middle joints should be nearly touching behind your back at the completion of the technique
Look around your Left arm towards 12 o'clock
Breathe out through your mouth and carry straight on to the next technique
Scissor Strike (Hassami Uchi) using extended Finger Joints (Naka Daka Ippon Ken) in Front Stance (Zenkutsu Dachi)

Move you Left foot across to the 10 30 clock position and pivot on the balls of your feet to face 12 o'clock in a wide Fudo Dachi Zenkutsu Dachi (Sensei Cole – Advanced Kata Course 3/7/16)
As you are turning, separate your arms to either side
As you complete the turn to face 12 o'clock, bring both fists together about 12 inches away from of your chest, middle knuckles still extended as the previous technique
Your extended finger joints should nearly be touching, backs of your fists facing up
KIAI loudly and tense all your body muscles for a brief moment on the completion of the move
Pause for a moment before going on to the next move

As your feet come together go straight onto the next move - no pause
Jump Back
The next three moves are jumps back to the original starting point
Keep your back straight and your hands in the same position in front of your chin
Keeping your feet together, jump backwards half the distance of your normal full Front stance towards the 4.30 clock position
Partial breathe out with each jump
Jump Back
Keep your back straight and your hands in the same position in front of your chin
Keeping your feet together, jump backwards a quarter of the distance of your normal full Front stance towards the 4.30 clock position
Partial breathe out with each jump
Jump Back
Keep your back straight and your hands in the same position in front of your chin
