OPENING

Salutations, my spectacular Key Club family! Just as any other graduating seniors, I am crossing off the

days on my calendar until graduation day, waiting for that momentous day when I trip over my

graduation gown on the way to get my diploma and when my smile will become frozen and awk-

ward on my face from smiling at thousands of snapping cameras. This feeling of anticipation for

graduation, however, sorely conflicts with the reality that I am not only a graduating senior, but also a

soon-to-be-retired Key Club officer. With less than two months left on the clock of my tenure, I am

sinking in gratitude for the plethora of friendships, leadership growth, servant passion, and unforgetta-

ble memories that this dear friend has blessed me with these past four years. As for my wonderful Key

Club, I hope that somewhere along your journey of service, you will also find a treasured friend in Key

Club and may you continue to be inspired by the magic of service. Thank you, to all of you, for giving

me the opportunity to serve you as vice president, for your service and impact in MY life, and for be-

ing a part of my footprint in this world.

Sincerely Yours, Elsie Cheang

Hi there! For those of you who don’t know me, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Gabby

Morales, and I’ve had the pleasure of being one of your co-VP’s this past 2011-2012 term in Key Club.

Though a year seems like a long time, it has definitely gone by fast. As I approach the end of my term

(marked by DCON!), I look back on these 4 years in Key Club, especially my time as VP, and think how

appreciative I am to have had this leadership experience. I’m honored to have had a small bit of

influence in making this world a better place, and at the same time, I am eternally grateful to have

met all of you wonderful people who truly care about the community. It is refreshing to see so many

teens live their life through service, and I’ve enjoyed this experience so far.

Though the final months of my term are coming near, I am excited for everything we still have in store

for Key Club. From DCON, all the way to the banquet and graduation, I want to make my last months

in Key Club memorable. I want to feel good, oh so good. And I do realize how weird that sounded, I

was trying to be funny.

-Gabby Morales

Welcome 2012-2013 Officer Elects!

Amy He, President Elect

I am extremely excited to serve Key Club as president with other officers in the year

2012-2013! Currently serving as secretary, I have learned so much from fellow officers

and Key Clubbers and do not think that I would have reached so far without them.

Key Club’s spirit, belonging, and professionalism have inspired me to be a dedi-

cated member and with this passion, I believe that I am able to put in the effort to

lead others to create a better club. My three main goals for my term are participa-

tion, fundraising, and organization. These include recruiting and retaining members,

effective management of events and meetings, and monthly charity events. With

the new board, I hope that we would take Key Club a step further and have an-

other amazing year of service with Key Clubbers!

Muhammad Islam, Vice President Elect

I FEEL GOOD! OH, I FEEL SO GOOD to be your Vice President for the 2012-2013

school year! My name is Muhammad Islam and I have been a Key Club member for

the past 3 years. I recognize that being elected vice president is a privilege and will

serve to the best of my ability for everyone who put their trust in me. With each year

I've seen this club improve and as a result so did my perspective of Key Club Interna-

tional. As vice president I will make it my personal goal to increase mem-

ber participation in various divisional and district projects. This will not only strengthen

club spirit and bonds but also help convey what Key Club International is truly

about. I know by working with my fellow officers, CHHS members, and members of

many other Key Clubs we can make this year SHINE brighter than ever before! =D

Jonathon Woo, Vice President Elect

I am a 16 yr old junior at CHHS as the 2012-2013 VP in Key Club. I'm involved

in Chambers Choir as well as Men's Ensemble. I've played bass guitar for 5

years, and I've always loved to not only play music, but be a part of a musi-

cal group. Everyone could use more friends. As of now, what I'd like to pro-

mote in Key Club is companionship among members. By hosting social

events for our members and encouraging members to meet at least one

new person, our club may move closer toward friendship- and with friend-

ship comes respect among each other. This is my goal for Key Club .

Welcome 2012-2013 Officer Elects!

Joyce Xiong, Secretary Elect

Hello Key Clubbers! My name is Joyce and I will be the secretary for 2012-2013. Being

secretary, one of my most important jobs would be recording members’ hours and

information. I will also be responsible for the Monthly Report Forms, also known as the

MRF’s. This file will include service records, membership information, spreadsheets, and

other information about the club. As secretary this upcoming year, I have already set

many goals to further accomplish, but there is one I must specify. I would like to recruit

as many members as possible and get them started with next year’s work. It would be

an amazing sight to see everybody being involved and positive towards doing com-

munity service. I am so overwhelmed and honored to be able to serve Key Club this

following year. Hopefully it’s going to be a blast of excitement for members!

Jaihee Choi, Treasurer Elect

Hi, I'm Jaihee Choi, and I am so honored to be elected CHHS Key Club's Treasurer

during the 2012-2013 year. I'm so thankful for every minute spent with Key Club and

it's truly a blessing to be part of something that is so amazing. Key Club has benefi-

cially influenced my life so much and I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve as an

officer and help contribute to this life changing club. I know that economic times

are tough, so as treasurer, I hope to make sure this poor economy does not hinder

our club's growth this upcoming year. All in all, I'm so excited for all the memorable

adventures to come, meeting new people, and serving our wonderful community!

Sona Senapti, Director of Activities Elect

Hi everyone! I have been elected at 2012-2013's Key Club Director of Activities. I'm very

excited for this upcoming year and have many aspirations to make Key Club even more

incredible! Some of my goals include increasing membership and attendance to events,

as well as finding wonderful events that are nearby for Key Club members to attend. I'm

hoping to create a new event for students who need tutoring after school, which I think

would be more than beneficial to students on campus. I'm extremely honored to have

received the position of Director of Activities and I cannot wait take part in having CHHS

Key Club reach its maximum potential. I'm looking forward to a wonderful year!

Karen Lee, Spirit Chair Elect

Hi everyone! My name is Karen Lee and I am the 2012-2013 Chino Hills High School Key

Club Spirit Chair! As Spirit Chair, I will try my best to inspire every Key Clubber to have as

much spirit and fun as I do in this wonderful club! I have had the privilege of being a

member of this club since my freshman year, and I am so excited to help others have an

amazing experience. Next year, I will work hard to keep spirit alive in every member, and

try to encourage members to attend the two biggest events of each year: Fall Rally and

DCON (District Convention). These two events are truly worth the time (and money) to

attend! They show how powerful Key Clubbers are when we're united, not to mention

how incredibly fun they are! I look forward in serving everyone next year!

Alana Mancao, Fundraising Coordinator Elect

Hello fellow Key Clubbers! It is definitely a pleasure being able to serve you all again

as our fundraising coordinator. I hope to focus on our major emphasis projects, The

Eliminate Project for MNT (maternal neonatal tetanus) and PTP (pediatric trauma

prevention), as well as any other projects or causes that you may have in mind. It

has become a goal of mine to include our members as much as possible in the

fundraising process. Therefore, if any of you guys have any creative ideas or sugges-

tions, just come talk to me and we can plan something together! This year, I hope

we can all learn the joys of fundraising and grow closer as Key Clubbers and servers

of our community! Have a great day, Giraffes, and I promise that I will work hard this

year! Thank you. ^^

Welcome 2012-2013 Officer Elects!

Delaney Davey, Fundraising Coordinator Elect

I’m 15 years old, and a freshman. I love to read, go off-road riding, play volleyball,

and devote my time to community service! This past year I’ve been truly honored to

be a part of Key Club. I wish to further my service to this amazing club by being the

best officer I can possibly be. I am a very optimistic person, and want to influence

others to have the same brightness and enthusiasm in all parts of Key Club. I’m hop-

ing through this attitude, I can positively affect the club and make Key Club as in-

spiring to others as it is to me. Through being Fundraising Chair, I believe I can de-

velop my leadership style, how to exercise authority, and help others develop their

skills as well. Key Club has inspired and enriched my life, and as an officer, I plan to

give others the opportunity to do the same.

Kevin Chou, Historian/Bulletin Editor Elect

Hi! My name is Kevin Chou and I am proud to be the Historian of CHHS Key

Club! I think of myself as a happy and spirited individual, appreciating anything

that may be in my path. I rarely get upset so it’s fine to break any hard news

onto me, as it will only allow me to become stronger. One major factor that

made me become the Historian was my passion for photography. It has flour-

ished through the past year, as it is now perhaps one of my favorite hobbies,

and I wish to share my enjoyment with the club! I hope to make Key Club even

more fun and energetic as it already is, making this year more productive yet

enjoyable at the same time. I love this club and hope for another great year.

Welcome 2012-2013 Officer Elects!

“Chino Hills Non-Profit Feeds The Poor” Living and breathing service twenty-four hours a day and three hundred and sixty-five

days a year, Chino Hills’s very own Judy Rogers made “caring-[her] way of life”

Mrs. Rogers run a local non-profit charity organization called Caring for the Hills,

SPOTLIGHT: KIWANIS

February| Volume 1 | Issue 9 | Page 9

Just as you love and value your parents, so do we! We like to think of Kiwanis In-

ternational as the parent of Key Club, guiding us in the right direction of service and

caring. What exactly is Kiwanis International, and why are they so important? Well, dear

Key clubber, let me tell you a little about our "parents" in Kiwanis.

Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to chang-

ing the world one child and one community at a time. Working with various charity or-

ganizations such as Children’s Miracle Network, Pediatric Trauma Prevention, and UNI-

CEF, the Kiwanis organization achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. To

quote them, “When you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow,

succeed and thrive, great things happen.”

Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis Club, no matter where in the world it’s lo-

cated. Members stage nearly 150,000 service projects and raise nearly US$107 million

every year for communities, families and projects.

Kiwanis Clubs focus on changing the world by serving children, one child and

one community at a time. That’s where we come in. As a branch of the Kiwanis family,

we join Kiwanis in helping the world by providing a wider audience and a broader per-

spective on society. As teens, Kiwanis teaches us leadership through service, and pre-

pares us for a lifetime of helping others.

The main Kiwanis members we communicate with are Bill Taylor and Wilbur

Richardson (center, below). They help facilitate our meetings and keep Kiwanis running

smoothly. Don’t be afraid to say hello, all of Kiwanis are very friendly (and cute!).

Come join our Kiwanis Club (I mean, family!) of Chino Hills
