Class Discusses Today Guruji was not there. The class, after revising the last topic, went on with a new shloka.

Two important points are to be noted with respect to last class,

That “Jigyaasu” is the third one, after “Arthaarthy”. (I need to self examine, my old notes do not conform to this)

And Deepti went on to tell what the four qualities of a Gyaani stands for,

Tulya. : “Sees everything Equal”

Ninda. : “Withstands “Ninda" with Equanimity.”

Stuti. : “Appreciates and remains Grateful.”

Santusht : “Remains Satisfied.”

Cup of Success The new shloka read from chapter 7, no. 21.

The contemplation on the shloka lead us to a discussion on what “Success” is and what it means to each of us.

Majorly of the answers came in with respect to the following,

That our success should make us satisfied, with the quality of work that has been delivered and the quality of skills which were deployed.

At the same time it should not bring harm to our environment, for ex. depletion of underground water and putting factories discharge into our rivers.

One interesting point came out in this way as how our success is defined by external factors such as an audience.

So it is not enough to be a musician who composes couplets and is greatly satisfied with them but also the audience should be able to find it appealing and appreciate the artist and the art.

Also it should be remembered that if an artist continues to just serve the taste of his audience, he might loose the subject itself and serve an inferior work, almost pathetic. for ex. Shahrukh’s Happy New Year.

So it is important to “Balance it out”. So having a “Balance” is a great ingredient for Success.

Each defines Success For one person Success meant having little successes for the day. She meant, once you wake up and chart out a plan, and if you are able to achieve your day before hitting the bed, you are pretty “Successful” then.

One strong theme for being successful was the aspect of “Humanity”. Your work should be able to create help, really help a lot of people.

Another Interesting thing that came out was “Priority Sharing of Success”. That some would prefer to help a guy coming out from his community first than others. Fair enough.(part of Human Nature and an Individual’s attempt to form his society).

One more important point that came up was about having an “Intent” which is right “but the execution might be wrong”. ex. Robin Hood. It would be great if we can keep both our intent and execution right.

An instance of “Connecting to conscience” was put up by a participant in order to decide for himself about right and wrong.

Gain the cause, not the effect.

More definitions. One person said if his event planning skills are appreciated by the hosts and unknown guests and not just by his friends and people those who know him, it is his cup of Success.

One person was satisfied with the Job, but not with the money that came along.

One person wanted a lot of money for his family.
