Why do we celebrate Chingay?

It is to celebrate the birthdays of the Chinese deities or the procession

God Mercy ( Guan Yin ) .

It was held to worship and enjoy with the deity.

Chingay also means the art of costume and masquerade.



This year’s theme:

COLOURS OF FABRIC, ONE PEOPLE, 海心

Where people of any age, race, language and creed are no bar

And we celebrate together as ONE.

During the performance, they wore their traditional

costumes and sang malay songs.

Segments - Introduction

• Beautiful diverse colours of fabric were held by the Chinese dancers

• Dancers were also wearing colourful costumes

• Different groups of dancers danced different unique dances which all synchronized in

beautiful dance parade.

o The event "officially" started with two

performers in Malay costume hitting the

drums.

o People of the three different races stoodin a line together, talking and bonding to

show the sign of "one people"

o Two beautiful horses walked past

majestically, reflecting this Chinese New

Year’s “Year of the Horse”

Segments – Lion Dance

• Reflecting the Chinese culture

• Lively and vibrant

Ballet-Swan Dance

• Different costumes, some longer and some

shorter tutus

• Ballerina held onto each other's arms to

make a perfect circle and spun around

o Represented by a float with singers of

different races on it, singing together.

o Shows Singapore’s specialty in entertainment

o We all have a dream and together as one we

shine.

• International dances were performed which shows how foreigners an

locals can come together as one people

• Ended off with all the different

floats of the organizations.

• The huge pieces of fabric which they

used a crane to spread out haddifferent colours of fabric stitched

together to form one huge beautiful

and colorful piece of cloth.

• Sound quality was bad

• Very long time for the students from

different schools to be dispersed.

• Space was quite limited, thus had tobe hit by classmate’s Pom Pom several

times.
