Chinese Calligraphy

By Emily Scolnick

The history of Chinese

calligraphy is a

fascinating tale…

Since the 3rd century CE or AD, calligraphy has been

considered supreme among the arts in China.

Chinese calligraphy has been around for

a long, long time.

It has endured for more than 2,000 years.

These are some examples of Chinese

characters.

There are 8 basic stroke order rules in Chinese

calligraphy...

You can learn to read and

write Chinese, too!http://www.learnchineseez.com/characters/learn-to-write-chinese/

There were 4 treasures of Ancient Chinese

calligraphy.

They were:

● the inkstone

● the ink

● the paper

● and the brushes

The Chinese used a brush rest to put their

brushes on when they were not using them. An

example of one is shown below.

This is an example of a Chinese book.

Two men named Wade and Giles created a

transliteration for the Chinese characters.

They created the Wade-Giles pinyin system.

There is also a modern pinyin transliteration.

The conversion chart is shown below.
