Chinese in America The first Chinese arrived in the United
States in 1820. 26.5% of the Asian American population is Chinese
American. There are 3.8 million Chinese Americans in the United
States.

NYC Chinatown It is home to the largest group of Chinese people
in the Western hemisphere. It is located on the Lower East Side of
Manhattan. The first Chinese people lived there in the 1850s.
Today, there are about 100,000 Chinese people living in NYCs
Chinatown.

especially fresh fish, meats and pastries. There are many vendors
who sell perfume, watches, purses and other knick knacks.
