March 9 - 19, 2016 PROGRAM OVERVIEW This course exposes students to the fashion ecosystems through an international study tour, coupled with classroom and experiential instructions. Students will visit design houses, mills, apparel factories & retail locations in China, identifying best practices in merchandising & supply chain management within these organizations. Students will gain knowledge of product development, marketing, lean manufacturing, quality assessment, and customer service. Students will acquire global competencies and the opportunity to hone their career aspirations; expand their professional networks through informative interviews with global fashion executives and hiring managers. WHY A CHINA STUDY TOUR 2 nd largest and fastest growing economy in the world. McKinsey Global Institute forecasted a market growth of $30 trillion by 2020, fueled by the emergence of a billion middle-class consumers, with 85% residing in Asia. China ranks # 1 in textile/apparel exports into the US, at $30 billion a year. ACTIVITIES On-site visits to China’s top and emerging corporations and meetings with company executives, and influential economic decision makers, various retail development visits, and cultural immersion.
