People's Liberation Army UniformsThe modern Chinese Soldier is now armed with the latest version of their combat rifle. The woodland pattern camouflageuniform is now standard wear with a ballistic helmet molded in the US PASGT shape but with a 3 point chin strap thatsimilar to the US airborne configuration.

Military dress uniform

1. Style : Open-necked coat with picked lapel and square laps. Two lower insert pockets with flap. Toothed-edges(distinguishing type of service) at collar edge, sleeve cuffs and out-seams on trousers. Western-style trousers in darkgreenish brown (Army), gray (Navy) or deep sky-blue (Air Force.)

2. Material : Thin whipcord

3. Decorations : Big cap insignia, hard epaulets, collar insignias, tie, tie bar, service mark tag, identity tag, aiguillette.

4. Cap : Peak hat.

5. Shoes : Leather.

Suit-style military service uniform for officers.

Jacket-style military service uniform for noncommissioned officers and soldiers.

Suit-style: Straight collar coat with small notch lapel and shoulder straps. Four buttons on flap. Loose lap and sleevecuffs. Two upper patch pockets with a button on each flap. Two lower slit pockets. No upper pockets for females.

Jacket-style: Broad lap and 3-button-through flap, tight sleeve cuffs, double piping pockets with zippers for femaleuniforms.

Trousers: Western-style with vertical pockets.

2. Colours : Bright greenish-brown for the Army. Dark blue for the Navy. Bright sky-blue for the Air Force.

3. Material : 45/55 wool-terylene blended serge4. Decorations : Big cap insignia, mid-sized cap insignia, hard epaulets, collar insignias, tie, tie bar, service mark tag,

armband. Identity tag, aiguillette and peak cap for officers on protocol occasions.

5. Caps : Peak hat, beret.

6. Shoes : Leather.

Shirts : Convertible collars, two upper out pockets, circular lap, flap with front welt with six buttons through. Yoke on the back.

Trousers : Western-style with slash pockets. Additional pistol pocket for males.

Skirts : Front open without pocket. Five buttons. Cloth belt. Slash pockets on both sides.

2. Colours : Bright greenish brown for the Army. Grey for the Navy. Bright sky-blue for the Air Force. The colours oftrousers and skirts are the same as those of Spring/Autumn military service uniform.

3. Material : 65/35 terylene-cotton, yarn-dyed fabric for long-sleeve shirts. Jungang woolen-cloth for short-sleeve shirts,trousers and skirts.

4. Decorations : Mid-sized cap insignia, soft epaulets, service mark tag, armband, tie and tie bar.

PLAAF UniformsWith the advent of 2004 a new generation of bedding, clothing and equipment for aircrew including four series andtwenty models were developed and passed the test and appraisal of General Logistics Department (GID). This indicatesthat PLA has realized the serialization, rationalization of accessories, being comforting to wear and diversification ofdefense function in aircrew clothing.

In the past bedding, clothing and equipment used by PLA aircrew were all equipped in 1949. They have never beensystematically researched and improved. As the army is being furnished with new models of aircraft, old bedding,

clothing and equipment are shown to be dull, oversimplified in function, antiquated and irrational in model design. In2000 GLD decided to develop a new generation of bedding, clothing and equipment for aircrew.

The new generation of bedding, clothing and equipment was adapted to the need ofliving habits, hygiene and the requirement of battle environment and flight movementtechnique. It includes 4 series - Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter and adds 5varieties including flight cotton-padded clothes, flight belt, long voyage underpants andsummer flight socks. So it is now able to serialize underwear with outer clothing,clothing with shoes and boots and clothing with equipment. Faced with the need offlight battle and drill the new generation of bedding, clothing and equipment has maindesigned function for different layers: the outer layer emphasizes the features of wear-resistance, tearing-resistance, wind-resistance, fire-resistance, finalized pattern and

pleasant appearance. Mid-layer emphasizes lightness, warmness and static-electricity resistance. Whilst the inner layerhas the features of being soft and cozy, sweat-absorbing, ventilating and irritation-free.

After two years of trial by hundreds of pilots it has been known that the new generation of bedding, clothing andequipment is adaptable to working environment of the new aircraft models. The pilot has more freedom in tacticalmaneuver. It is also compatible with such weapons and equipment as anti-G suit, counter-pressure suit, pistol and gravityknife and satisfies the requirement of new aircraft models in battle and drill.
