Transfers: Approx. 1 hour transfer to hotel.
Day ThreeHuangyaguan
Following breakfast at the hotel, warm up trek along the section which begins at
Taipingzhai and returns along the Great Wall to Huangyaguan. This section is very
popular as it was an army barracks 600 years ago and was a highly strategic point
for entering into Beijing - you can still see the links of the barracks to the Great Wall. Even
though it is a warm up day there are still plenty of ups and downs to get used to the
Great Wall Steps!
Approx. 3 hours trekking - Approx. 5km.Transfers: Approx. 15 min morning transfer; 2
hour transfer at end of trek.
Day FourGubeikou to Jinshanling
Commence trekking along the Gubeikou Great Wall to Jinshanling. The main challenge
today will be to cover some 27 watchtowers over old brick-made steps! Step back in time
and drink in the history of this remote and beautiful section of the Great Wall. Descend
from the Wall and trek through remote villages and farms at the end of the day’s
challenge.
Approx. 7 – 8 hours trekking – approx. 13km.Transfers: Approx. 1 hour, 30 min morning
transfer; 20 min transfer at end of trek.
Day FiveJinshanling
Trek from Jinshanling to a remote section of the Wall which will give a flavour of the immense
task undertaken in building this incredible structure. It is a beautiful area and the vista of the Wall disappearing over the mountains
is a truly memorable sight.
Approx. 5 – 6 hours trekking – approx. 7.5kmTransfers: Approx. 20 min morning transfer; 2
hour transfer at end of trek.
Day SixMutianyu
Transfer to the Mutianyu section and climb the awesome 1,000 steps up to the foot of
the Wall. Trek through 11 towers to the ‘Heavenly Ladder’ – a near vertical staircase that climbs to the top of the mountain. The scenery is stunning – the Great Wall pitches up and dives down across the rolling green
hillsides disappearing and then reappearing amongst the forested slopes. A very tough
day, but the views make it all worthwhile.
Enjoy some “retail therapy” at the base of the wall, where stall holders set out their wares
for you to buy. Everyone loves a bargain and this is certainly the place to practice your
bartering skills!
Approx. 5 – 6 hours trekking – approx. 7kmTransfer: Approx. 10 min morning transfer; 1
hour, 15 min transfer at end of trek.
Day SevenJuyongguan and Badaling
The first part of the day is spent at the Juyongguan section of the Great Wall, with an important barracks situated at
the bottom. This section gives you a clear indication of how the Wall would have looked
originally.
The second part of the day is spent helping repair the Badaling Old Section of the Great Wall. We have secured exclusive permission
from the Chinese Government to help with the reconstruction in this area. New bricks are carried up to a section currently being repaired. Trained staff will supervise the
placing of bricks on the Wall.
Transfer back to Beijing. Once back in Beijing, take the opportunity to go on an optional
Hutong rickshaw tour.
Approx. 3 – 4 hours trekking – approx. 3kmTransfer: Approx. 45 minute morning transfer; 1
hour, 30 minute transfer at end of trek.
