At present, this region accounts for just over $200 M or 10% of Schulman’s total sales revenue. The target is to double this to 20% within five years. At its Johore plant in Malaysia, Schulman recently added three new lines capable of producing 5000 tonnes/y of colour concentrates. Schulman is currently working on a project to double the size of its Dongguan plant in Guangdong province, China from 25,000 tonnes/y to 50,000 tonnes/y. A second line should be added at its Vadodara (India) plant later this year. The plant is located at Jining in the southwestern corner of Shandong province, 420 km southwest of Qingdao. In its initial configuration, the plant has two lines each producing 40,000 tonnes/y of furnace black. By the end of this year, another three lines will be installed, two producing furnace blacks, the third producing semi-active grades. Total capacity at Jining will then be 200,000 tonnes/y, bringing Jiangxi Black Cat’s total to 1.09 M tonnes/y and consolidating the company’s position among the world’s top five suppliers. Two waste heat boilers are also going to be installed as part of the overall project, for which the total budgeted capital investment was Rmb 89.964 M (equivalent to $14.4 M).
