China Has Been Actively Engaged

In International Standards activities

• The standardisation of IoT has been universally recognised as

an important subject in China.

• Chinese research bodies and enterprises are actively engaged

in the international standardisation of IoT, such as ISO/IEC,

ITU-T,3GPP and ETSI.

• For example, CCSA IDT adopted OneM2M release one in

2016.

Future Work Plan

National Standards

Development

• Accelerate the key and urgently needed standards development

• Define the overall and annual standards promotion plan, and establish a comprehensive, long-term, continuous promotion mechanism

International Standardization

• Establishment of the mechanism to coordinate and increase the international and domestic work

• Actively participate the international standardization

Standard Adoption&Promotion

• Extract typical requirements from regional scale application to promote standards

• Establish IoT standard service system, including consulting, training, testing, evaluation

26

Key challenges

✓ Different departments and organizations aredoing overlapping and conflicting standards inthis area

✓ The introduction of “Association Standards” intoChina standardization system make the situationeven worse.

✓ As IoT is a new and comprehensive topic, it issometimes very difficult to find the right orpowerful players

✓ The technologies and standards are under thecompetition or “market decision” stage.

Europe

✓ CEN/CENELEC and ETSI are in charge of IoT standards drafting

✓ Currently, neither CEN nor CENELEC have technical bodies addressing IoT or IoTapplications

✓ CEN-CENELEC-ETSI Coordination Groups : on Smart Cities SSCC-CG (also with ISO, IEC, UN, ITU-T..), Smart Meters SM-CG and Smart Grid SEG-CG

✓ Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI)

China

✓ Many different organizations are making standards, including many Assocations

✓ SAC national IoT Working Groups,

✓ There is lacking of coordination in China IoTStandards Drafting

✓ Although China Sensor Network and IoT Industry Alliance was set up in 2016, it is not unified or powerful yet
