Why Chiltern Relocation likes Chalfont St Giles: It is a friendly popular village in the heart of the countryside with a great network of walks and cycling routes on the doorstep yet close to the town of Gerrards Cross.
The hugely popular Chalfont St. Giles is a quaint village steeped in history. It is famous for its connections with John Milton, who lived here whilst fleeing from the Plague of London. His cottage is open to the public and it was here that he completed 'Paradise Lost' and the sequel 'Paradise Regained'. Chalfont St Giles has a real English village feel about it with its village duck pond at the bottom of the bustling high street which supports many independent shops and cafes.
Despite its rural location, Chalfont St Giles is only minutes from Seer Green or Gerrards Cross train stations with the journey times of only 25 minutes into Marylebone.
The Chiltern Open Air Museum is situated here and it has just been won the gold award for small attraction of the year in the Tourism South East awards. Set over acres of rolling fields the museum houses many historic buildings to explore including an iron age house as well as hosting many historical recreations such as gladiator displays. In fact the museum has been used as the filming location for the hit BBC programme Horrible Histories.
Schooling options are excellent at the village primary school and there is a thriving social community. The village hosts the annual Chalfont St Giles Fair on the first weekend of September which has a huge range of events and stalls and rivals other major county shows. A hugely popular local event it showcases falconry, a huge variety of animals and a show ring for various displays and events.
