Today’s Bible Story: God can do anything.

Elijah and the Fire • 1 Kings 18 Memory Verse: “I trust in God. I am not afraid.” Psalm 56:11, NIrV Key Question: Who can trust God? Bottom Line: I can trust God. Basic Truth: God loves me. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS (for after the video): This week’s true story from the Bible is about a man who is a friend of God. He knew that God can do anything and trusted Him. What was the man’s name? The man’s name was Elijah. The king of the land, King Ahab, did not trust God. He believed in a pretend god and had a big statue of him. King Ahab believed something about the statue. What did he believe? King Ahab believed the statue - his pretend god - had super powers and could do anything. Elijah wanted everyone to know there is only one true God. He suggested a test using two altars, one for King Ahab’s god and one for Elijah’s God. The one true God would do something special to that person’s altar. What would happen to the altar of the true God? The one true God would set a fire on the altar. King Ahab’s people prayed and shouted loudly to their pretend god. What happened? The pretend god did not send fire to their altar. Elijah trusted God and believed that God can do anything. He even had the people pour water all over his altar so it would be really hard to light on fire, then he prayed to God. What happened? God sent fire down on the wet altar. Everyone knew that Elijah’s God is the one true God! When we remember that God can do anything, it helps us to trust God. Who can trust God? I can trust God! Yes you can! Let’s pray: Dear God, You are the one true God and there is no one else like You. You are powerful and loving and always with us. Thank You for being so awesome! Please help us to never, ever, EVER stop trusting You. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.

Elijah and the Fire • 1 Kings 18 Memory Verse: “I trust in God. I am not afraid.” Psalm 56:11, NIrV Key Question: Who can trust God? Bottom Line: I can trust God. Basic Truth: God loves me. FIRE Elijah wanted everyone to know there is only one true God. He suggested a test using two altars, one for King Ahab’s god and one for Elijah’s God. The one true God would do something special to that person’s altar. What would happen to the altar of the true God? The one true God would set a fire on the altar. What You Need: • Quart-sized freezer ziploc bags • White foam shaving cream • Red, yellow, and orange food coloring • Masking tape What You Do: Fill the bags half full of the shaving cream. Place three to four drops of each food coloring in the bag. Seal the bag and lay flat on a table without mixing the contents inside. Securely tape the top and the bottom of the bag to the table. Ask your child to mix the shaving cream and the paint by moving their hands on top of the bag to make “fire.” Alternative Suggestion: Using a baking sheet, spread out a thick layer of white shaving cream; place several drops of watered-down paint (washable or may stain) and mix to create “fire.” Outside is best for ease of cleanup.
