Children’s laughter is the most magical sound in the world.

It fills the air at Give Kids The World Village—a wish-fulfilling, carefree retreat built exclusively to serve children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Give Kids The World Village is a 79-acre, nonprofit, “storybook” resort located near Central Florida’s world-famous theme parks and attractions. Here, children and their families are treated to weeklong, cost-free dream vacations, complete with accommodations in the Village’s whimsical villas, transportation, donated attraction tickets, meals, and much more.

At the Village, children learn that dreams really do come true, as they and their families are surrounded by joy, hope, and non-stop fun for six unforgettable days.

Since 1986, the Village has hosted more than 150,000 families from all 50 states and more than 75 countries. This extraordinary, life-changing experience is Give Kids The World’s gift, made possible only through the generosity of dedicated corporations and countless individuals.

For more information, please visit givekidstheworld.org.

Dear Friends, A life-threatening illness steals precious time from a child. Days become crowded with doctor visits and medical treatments. Lab tests push aside spelling tests. Time to laugh, play, and dream is snatched away not only from the child, but their family as well.

At Give Kids The World Village, we welcome these families for a week filled instead with fun, love, and laughter. There are no appointments to keep or hospital stays to endure. Just time to play and make memories together.

Since 1986, we have offered that gift to more than 150,000 families – almost 8,000 in 2016 alone. We have served families from all 50 states and more than 75 countries. Any success we’ve achieved has been made possible by the inherent goodness of people.

Our dedicated volunteer Angels share their time, talents, and hearts with our visiting families. In 2016, volunteers filled more than 1,600 shifts each week, working a total of 389,608 hours for the year.

Our individual and corporate donors, meanwhile, donated millions in cash, in-kind products, and services. Their generosity is at the heart of our ability to create the happiness that inspires hope. I invite you to read more about their commitment to our mission in the pages that follow.

We pride ourselves on being excellent stewards of the resources our supporters so graciously provide. For the 12th consecutive year, Charity Navigator awarded us its coveted four-star rating – the highest possible – for our governance, transparency, and financial accountability. We were one of only 49 charities to receive a perfect score of 100. We are proud to report that 91.9 cents of every dollar spent goes to program services, well above the industry average.

At Give Kids The World Village, our mission is to serve every eligible child and never turn a child away. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping to make that possible. We simply could not do it without you.

With love,

Pamela LandwirthPresident & CEOGive Kids The World Village

Letter from a family -Each year, Give Kids The World receives hundreds of notes and letters from families

who’ve stayed at the Village. They are powerful testaments to the work we do and

the impact we have every day.

The Village works every day to spread its message of happiness and hope, and in 2016, it received some truly royal assistance.

Prince Harry of England met with some of our wish families while he was in Orlando to attend the Invictus Games. The prince, who served 10 years in the British military, founded the games to honor injured veterans from around the world.

Give Kids The World staff arranged for wish children and their families to visit Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports, telling them they would meet world-class athletes preparing for the Paralympic-style games. Families didn’t know that Prince Harry would be there as well.

His appearance thrilled our wish families, some of whom were visiting from the United Kingdom. The prince, in jeans and a polo shirt, mingled easily with our guests, as they described their wish trips, Disney’s fireworks and the merits of ice cream for breakfast.

One of the visiting wish moms said meeting the prince was “an experience we will treasure always.” Prince Harry, she said, “interacted with the children beautifully.”

The event also earned GKTW plenty of exposure, as the prince’s visit made both local and national headlines.

A

for Visiting Wish Families

In March, Give Kids The World celebrated its 30th anniversary with a spectacular pool-side party, featuring a parade of Village characters, a new song commemorating the event, and fireworks over the Happy Harbor Fishing Pond.

Some 800 supporters, Village staff, and current and former wish families were there to witness the magic, including the mother of Marc McConnell, the wish child for whom Marc’s DinoPutt miniature golf course is named.

Jill McConnell said Marc’s visit to the Village gave him the strength he needed to battle his illness.

“Our family’s time here at the Village was an amazing adventure,” McConnell told the crowd. “And the adventure lives on.”Gary Landwirth, the son of Village Founder Henri Landwirth, also spoke, pointing out that Founder’s Day was his father’s birthday. Henri Landwirth began Give Kids The World 1986 as just a few rooms made available at local hotels for visiting wish families.

It has grown to a 79-acre, nonprofit resort that has served more than 150,000 children and families.

“I don’t think anyone would have envisioned it would get this big,” GKTW President and CEO Pamela Landwirth told the crowd. “Everyone here has had a hand in it. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank everyone for bringing us to this milestone.”

To mark our 30th anniversary, Give Kids The World took the Village on the road, organizing a series of wish-family reunions around the country.

Thousands of families came together to share their memories of the Village and celebrate with old GKTW friends. From Philadelphia to Los Angeles, Give Kids The World staff and volunteers hosted six family reunions across the country.

The events were held at local amusement parks and resorts. Each included dancing, games, activities, fun photo ops, and visits from some favorite Village characters. The reunions invited wish families to reminisce about their magical time spent at the Village and connect with other families facing similar challenges.

Sandra and her son David, who visited the Village in 2014, attended the celebration in Chicago. Like so many others, they were drawn to the reunion to reconnect with the Village family. “We definitely felt part of the GKTW family again,” Sandra said. “And we’re looking forward to being able to visit the Village again someday to see David’s star. We can’t wait for that day.”

Alumni Families carry the Village with them, and we are always eager to celebrate our special bond with them.

Family Reunions

Celebrate 30 Years of Making Memories

In the fall of 2016, Give Kids The World opened Banyan Park, a collection of beautiful new villas that add some much-needed space to the storybook resort.

Located on the northern end of Village property, Banyan Park is home to GKTW’s first three-story building and features its first three-bedroom villas. Phase One of the project – two more are planned – added 24 villas to the resort. The additional space allows up to 1,300 more families to stay on property each year.

The opening was made official in November with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Give Kids The World Village President and CEO Pamela Landwirth. She was accompanied by representatives from our partners at Wyndham Hotels and Resorts – who helped finance the project – and from Welbro, who oversaw its construction.

“At Give Kids The World Village, we strive to give our precious families experiences they will never forget, whether that’s ice cream for breakfast or a special bedtime tuck-in with one of our characters,” said Landwirth. “We are thrilled to have the ability to welcome even more families to create those memories, and we are sincerely grateful to the partners and friends who made this exciting expansion possible.”

hankYou!T At Give Kids The World Village, we rely on the

extraordinary generosity of countless individuals, organizations and corporate partners to create happiness and hope for the families we serve. We are honored to have their support.

Walt Disney World has been with us from the start.

As Give Kids The World’s first corporate partner, WDW has supported our mission for 30 years, creating magical moments for every wish child and family we serve. Disney graciously provides our visiting families with complimentary passes to all four of its world-famous theme parks and gives every wish child his or her own Mickey plush. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Give Kids The World, Disney surprised the Village with a $45,000 donation.

Twice a week, beloved Disney characters come to the Village for special meet-and-greets with our guests. WDW employees, meanwhile, voluntEAR regularly throughout the year, generously lending their time and talents wherever they are needed. Disney recognized their volunteer work by awarding the Village more than $57,000 in grants in 2016.

WDW is a treasured partner, offering that special Disney magic to our wish families.

Partner Since 1986Platinum Level: $1 million +

For more than 25 years, Universal Orlando Resort has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Give Kids The World Village to ensure visiting wish children and families enjoy the vacation of a lifetime. Universal provides tickets to its cutting-edge theme parks and, each week, sends its world-famous characters to the Village. Fountains in Universal’s parks raise awareness for GKTW and are an additional source of donations.

The company supports Marc’s DinoPutt, our popular, dinosaur-themed, miniature golf course, encourages employees to become GKTW volunteer Angels, and matches employee giving to the Village. It has even created a special Vacation Volunteer program for Universal guests who would like to help Give Kids The World.

This caring partner shows us each day that compassion is Universal.

Partner Since 1990Platinum Level: $1 million +

As a founding partner of Give Kids The World Village, SeaWorld Parks & Resorts has been making a splash with our wish families for 30 years. The company provides complimentary park passes to our guests, allowing them to experience the wonders of the sea. SeaWorld also gives a plush Shamu to the siblings of visiting wish children and compensates SeaWorld Ambassadors for their volunteer hours spent at the Village.

In 2016, the company partnered with the Village for the opening of SeaWorld’s new Mako roller coaster, raising donations for, and awareness of, GKTW.

While visiting SeaWorld, wish families receive unparalleled hospitality, including special guest assistance and a free tray of food to feed the park’s dolphins. Each week, Discovery Cove trainers bring rescued animals to the Village so guests can see them up close. And on special occasions, SeaWorld’s lovable characters come by to dance and laugh with wish families.

We can always count on Perkins to ensure that our guests are happy and well fed. Every day, the company, which operates Nancy’s Kitchen in Café Clayton, prepares delicious breakfasts and dinners, so wish families can start and end their day with a smile. In 2016, Nancy’s Kitchen served about 300,000 meals to our wish families. Perkins also supports the Village through fundraisers like Perkins Pancake Day and employee-giving campaigns. A longtime partner of GKTW, Perkins knows that great meals help make a great vacation.

DON and LORRAINE FREEBERG FOUNDATION

The impact of the The Don and Loraine Freeberg Foundation is evident every day at the Village. The Foundation helped finance construction of our Towne Hall – which opened in 2015 – with a generous $3 million pledge. Towne Hall, which had been a dream project for many years, allows us to house much of our staff under one roof, and, more importantly, provides a beautiful indoor entertainment space and an expanded café for our guests. This Village landmark would not exist without the help of the Freeberg Foundation.

Hasbro knows that child’s play is serious business. The company has dedicated itself to ensuring that visiting wish families have every opportunity to play, laugh, and have

fun while at the Village. It supports two cherished venues at Give Kids The World -- Matthew’s Boundless Playground and Twinkle Hope’s Rockin’ Spa and G.I. JOE Gym (formerly Twinkle Hope’s La-Ti-Da Royal Spa) – and provides wonderful gifts for our guests. Hasbro supplies us with 10,000 Give Kids The World special edition CANDY

LAND board games annually and donates more than 18,000 toys and games as part of the Village’s weekly Winter Wonderland celebration.

Boston Market has been part of the GKTW family since 2008, serving delicious, home-style meals to our guests at Katie’s Kitchen in Café Clayton.

The company generously funds Katie’s Kitchen through the sale of special coupon books. We are fortunate to have such a committed partner ensuring

that our visiting families are happy and well cared for.

Give Kids The World Village has relied on the generous support of the International Association of Amusement Parks for more than 20 years, and its dedication to our cause has never been stronger. IAAPA is a steadfast partner, raising money and providing our wish families with free, year-long passes to

amusement parks across the country. In 2016, IAAPA raised more than $124,000 for the Village at its annual expo in Orlando. It also teamed up with the Village to celebrate the 100th anniversary of mini-golf, raising more than $30,000. We are

privileged to have such strong support from IAAPA and its members.

Each year, the Give Kids The World Black & White Gala is one of Central Florida’s premiere fundraising events, and each year the Hyatt Regency Orlando outdoes itself by serving as our host and venue. The Hyatt and its staff provide a spectacular setting, wonderful food, and impeccable

service. The hotel’s support for our mission and its top-notch staff make the Gala one of the most anticipated events of the year.

Eye, Madame Tussauds, and SEA LIFE aquarium – or a Merlin’s Magic Wand Day Out to use any time after their visit. It’s good for free family admission to any of the

Global Merlin Entertainments attractions. Our thanks to Merlin’s Magic Wand for sharing its wizardry with our visiting families.

The generosity of Colorvision International, Inc. makes it a snap for visiting wish families to take home amazing photos, with a complimentary My Universal Photo
