Students line up at one end of the room, teacher holds up the red card, and says stop! when the card is flipped over onto the green side the kids can go but they can shuffle, not run. When the teacher gets to the other end of the room, and is getting squashed by all the children, teacher holds up flashcards, asks questions about it. Then children go back to the beginning and start over.

Appendix B- Sticky fingers

Teacher wears a giant pair of felt gloves, the children each hold a finger. A flashcard is stuck to the board behind the teacher, the teacher will ask the children what the object is, using wrong examples, and when the correct word is said the children must run away or they will get tickled by the teacher.

Appendix C- Line game

Teacher had the students stand in one line in the centre of the room, the teacher holds up two flashcards, the children must jump to the correct side which the flashcard is held.

Appendix D- Matching game

The teacher lays out flashcards of the vocabulary they have been teaching, in the centre of the circle, then either hand out the objects to children or have them pass a ball around the circle to music, when the music stops they have to pick an object and match it to the flashcard, they then must say the name of the object.

Appendix E- Musical statues

Children must dance to music, when the CD stops they must freeze and answer questions about flashcards, or read a sentence from the book.

Appendix F- Ball Pass

Children must pass a ball around the circle, when the music stops the child holding the ball must answer a question or say whats on the flashcard. This can be made more interesting by having the children throw a ball into a box, or a bean bag into a hoop and then saying the word on the flashcard.

Appendix E- Target

Have the children split into two teams, or have two children come up to the front at the same time, lay out flashcards on the floor of vocabulary words, have them put a bean bag on their head, find the flashcard you are calling out and then aim to drop the bean bag onto it without using their hands.Appendix F Hot potato

Have the children stand in a circle, show them the bean bag which is a hot potato demonstrate by mime, that it is hot, tell them they need to pass it around the circle very quickly, but show them not to throw it. Have an egg timer, and when it goes off the child holding the hot potato has to read the word/sentence.

Appendix G- Body parts touching game

Have two decks of cards. Each card should have a part of the body on it; the more parts there are the better. Separate the class into two or more teams. One child comes up to the front at a time and picks a card from each pile. The child then must try and touch the body part shown on one card with the one shown on the other. Obviously some of these will be near or completely impossible, but they will also be very amusing. Every success, or near success, wins a point for his/her team. Another simpler way of playing this is to have two children come up and each picks a card. One child then has to touch the part shown on their card with the other childs part (e.g. nose to knee, mouth to elbow.) Even though this game is very simple, my younger children love it.Appendix H Body parts ball challenge

Have a child come up the the front and pick a card with a body part on it, if it is knees, then they must carry a ball between their knees for the length of the classroom, this can be done in teams as a race, and with other body parts.

Appendix I Body ball

Have a deck of cards ready with pictures of various parts of the body on them. Have a child come up and chose a card. Have the class tell you what it is a picture of and repeat it several times. Then have the child stand behind the line and throw a very soft toy or ball at that part of your body. I give my students three tries and rarely do they even come close to hitting the right spot. (You can play this game in teams.) Appendix J Funny monster

Have a pre made face on a piece of paper, one for each child. Have a deck of cards with different body parts on them and a die. Have the children one by one come up and roll the die, as well as pick a card. Each time a card is chosen and a die rolled, the children must draw that on their monster, (e.g. an eye was picked and a 4 was rolled, the students must draw 4 eyes on their monster.)

Appendix K Face parts mystery gameHave some funny pictures of eyes, noses, ears, mouths and put them in a bag, have children guess what part of the face you are moving, then use the phrase yes, this is my mouth, then pick a child to come up to the front and pick a picture out of the bag, they then put the part on their face and turn around and show the rest of the class, they then have to say this is my mouth, or this is my nose.. etc.Appendix L Grouping game

Hand out a series of laminated cards to the children. Have the children then group together in pairs according to what card they have each been given. Tell the children all the motorcycles are to come to the front, then all the bused, and cars and so on. Encourage the children to say We are motorcycles, and have them act like a motorcycle does.Appendix M- Hot Potato Animal Charades: Have a series of animal flashcards ready in an envelope. Have the class sit in a circle on the floor. While playing some music pass around a potato (or a ball, anything will work). When the music stops, in secret, show the child left holding the potato a flashcard of an animal. The child must act out the animal while the rest of the class guesses what the animal is. Encourage the children to get on all fours and make animal noises. Appendix N Letters, whats missing?

Put the entire alphabet on the board in order and sing the alphabet song, making sure to go slowly over the L, M, N, O, and P Have the children hide their eyes or cover the board. Remove a few letters and ask the children to tell you what is missing. Discovering what is missing really takes them a while, singing the song repeatedly, and stopping at the missing letters.

Appendix O Pin the tail on the animal

Have a laminated picture of an animal on the board. The animal should be missing a tail (or a nose, ears, whatever you like.) I use Velcro to stick on the missing body part. One by one have the children try and correctly stick the tail on to the animal; blindfolded and dizzy (I give the children a good couple spins to disorient them first.) This game is good for learning the parts of the human body, face, or just about anything and the children love it.Or do this in teams, boys vs. girls to keep a large class entertained, have them judge whether the boys or girls was better.

Appendix P Scramble

Separate the class into two or more teams. Put the entire alphabet on the board in a scramble of letters here and there. Have one child from each team come up to the board, when ready yell out a letter. The first person to find and circle the correct letter wins a point for their team. This game also works for numbers, words, or even pictures.Appendix Q Shopping

This game can be used with a wide variety of objects or pictures of objects (plastic fruit and toys work well). One by one, I ask a student What do you want? (Or depending on their levels of English What do you like? or, What would you like?)The students then choose from the objects shown, and should in turn reply (e.g. I want a banana:, or A banana, please) I then say Here you are and hand them the item they have asked for. This game is great for teaching please and thank you as well as reviewing objects. When all the objects are gone, you can then play the May I have or Give me game.

Appendix R Simon says:When giving directions without saying Simon says or Ms Linz says then the children are not to do it, they are only to follow your directions if Simon says to do so. I play this game with objects in the classroom too. (I tell the children to touch he door, to lie on the floor etc)Appendix S Duck, duck, gooseSit the children in a circle and one student pats the others on the head and pronounces one word. When they say the other word, that person must get up and chase the first person around back to their seat. The second person is now the one who says the word.

Appendix T- Whats the time Mr. Wolf

Students ask Mr. Wolf (the teacher) What time is it, Mr. Fox? and Mr. Fox answers with a number Four oclock. Students take four steps forward. Mr. Fox can also answer with Dinner time! and chaos will ensue as the students scatter and Mr. Fox tries to grab one of them.Appendix U- Word game relay

Hang up flashcards of new words on the board. Two students run to the white board and fill in the missing letters of a word (f_ow_ _ = flower) and run back to their team. The team that shouts the word out correctly first wins.

Appendix V- One finger, one thumb

This is a chant that you keep adding onto. It begins, One finger, one thumb, keep moving. (Stick out your index finger and then thumb, then shuffle your arms as if youre running) Add actions onto it: One finger, one thumb, jump twice, keep moving. One finger, one thumb, jump twice, sit down, keep moving. Etc. etc.

Appendix W- Bowling/fishingThe pins or fish each have a letter or number on them, and on a white board you can put the same numbers or letters with flashcards of vocabulary words. Have the children participate in pairs, and have the activity in the centre of the circle.

Appendix X- Ball pass card bucket game

Students pass a ball or object around to music; when the music stops the one holding the ball must run to the correct bucket and put the ball in (the teacher shouts out one of the vocabulary words). Appendix Y- Concentric circlesGood for a large group, for practicing simple questions and answers. The inner circle faces out, the outer circle faces in. The students link elbows and each has a partner. The inner partners ask a question (What is your name?) chorally, and then the outer partners answer chorally. Appendix Z- Shoot out

Two students stand back to back holding a flashcard. Take 3 steps, turn around and the first to say the word wins.

Appendix A1 Rooster

Two students standing face to face, each have a flash card on their back. Count to 3, they have to try to see the flash card on the others back and the first to say out the word wins.

Appendix B2- Limbo

children line up at the other end and come to do the limbo dance one by one, can use a string instead of stick, say the word before crossing and lower string and change card.

Appendix C3- Magic bag

Have a sparkly bag with items in, pull them out very slowly and have the children guess what they are, or have children put their hand in the bag and guess what the object is inside.

Appendix D4- Catch the fruit/object

Toss a piece of plastic fruit to a student and ask, "What is it?" Elicit and prompt the correct vocabulary. Gesture the student to throw it back to you and repeat with different fruit and students. Do this with various different objects.Appendix E5 Memory tray

Bring in a tray of various review or new objects. Elicit the names of the objects and give the students a minute to memorize what's on the tray. Take the tray away and see how many objects can be remembered. Older students should write a list of objects. The student who remembers the most objects gets a point. Can be done with flashcards.Appendix F6- Touch

Order the students to touch various objects around the classroom e.g. "Touch your book", "Touch something red".Appendix G7- Hammer Game

Have two inflatable flashcards, have two children come up to the front and race to hit the correct flashcard called out. Can also be done as a relay.

Appendix H8 Sack Race

Have two large sacks for the children to race in, and line them up into two teams, they have to race to one side of the classroom where they have to read out the relevant flashcard which is placed on the floor. They then jump out of the sack and run back to their team.

Appendix I9 London Bridge

Have the children stand in a circle and walk around underneath the children; two with their arms up in a bridge shape, then sing a song to the tune of London bridge, or any other fairly short song, when the song finishes the children bring their arms down and trap some of the children from the circle in the gap, the trapped children have to read a sentence.

Appendix M10- What's the time Mr Wolf?

Have the children line up on one wall, then they need to ask the teacher, whats the time? And the teacher will say 2,3,4,5,6 etc. o 'clock and they take this number of steps forward. When the teacher says "dinner time" they can chase after the children. Inbetween the children asking what's the time, hold up flashcards and elicit answer

Appendix N11- Spin the bottle

Have the children sitting in a circle, one of them may spin the bottle, whoever it points at has to say whats on the flashcard the teacher is holding

Appendix O12 Flashcard floor swipe

Have three flashcards and put them on the floor face down, tell the students to watch one particular flashcard then move them around quickly while the students keep watching. Ask where that flashcard is and have the student come out and pick the correct one. Have them say the word and give a round of applause.
