You feel it inthe halls, in the lively Pedi Dome, and wherever young patients are.Along with hope, love is an emotion that sustains patients, parentsand staff. You may think a hospital is a no nonsense place. Not so at theChildren’s Cancer Hospital, where love is generated in many ways. Whileundergoing treatment for cancer, young patients thrive in a bright, colorfulclassroom where art classes, school instruction, music therapy and more occurthroughout their hospital stays.

Inside the pages of this catalog, you will find a vibrant collection of valentine cards and gifts to share with the special people in your life. They are also availablethrough www.childrensart.org or at our boutique in Uptown Park in Houston. Everyproduct purchased spreads a little more love — to your friends and family and rightback to the patients at the Children’s Cancer Hospital. Proceeds from the sale ofthese cards fund programs that benefit patients and their families. Programs fundedinclude: 89 college and graduate school scholarships for current and formerpatients, an in-hospital classroom, summer camp for patients and their siblings, arehabilitative ski trip, supportive Child Life specialists, special parties and events,educational field trips and more.

Ashley is a delightful nine-year old attending third grade at De Zavala Elementary. Diagnosed withleukemia/lymphoma at age 7, Ashley is nowundergoing treatment as an outpatient. Her eyes light up when Dr. Nunez is mentioned. He is “her”doctor! While staying in the hospital last year, sheloved to pretend with the medical play equipment and interact with the Child Life team. Her bigfamily surrounds her with love! Three olderbrothers take first-class-care of their little sister,along with her parents. And the whole familyadores their new puppy Fluffy, a white poodle!Cancer is a tough diagnosis, but a big dose oflove is the best medicine of all!
