Humour Corner In surgery for a heart attack, a middle-aged woman has a vision of God by her bedside. “Will I die?” she asks. God says, “No. You have 30 more years to live.” With 30 years to look forward to, she decides to make the best of it. So since she’s in the hospital, she gets breast implants, liposuction, a tummy tuck, hair transplants, and collagen injections in her lips. She looks great! The day she’s discharged, she exits the hospital with a swagger, crosses the street, and is immediately hit by an ambulance and killed. Up in heaven, she sees God. “You said I had 30 more years to live,” she complains. “That’s true,” says God. “So what happened?” she asks. God shrugs, “I didn’t recognize you.” HOLIDAY TIME Have a holy, happy and safe holiday and welcome to friends and family who are home for the holidays. Going on holiday? Please don’t forget me. Many people often ask what is the difference between a church and a chapel, and which do we have? There is an important distinction. A church is the primary place of worship in a parish community where people gather above all for Mass on a Sunday, but also daily. It is the location where the baptismal font is found, and from where weddings and funerals typically take place. It falls under the administration of the parish priest. A chapel is a building or part of a building where Mass may be celebrated which is not the parish church. It is typically part of a bigger institution with wider functions, such as a hospital, convent, seminary, or university. The term chapel is often misused in Ireland and Britain to refer to parish churches of denominations which do not belong to the 'established' church, thereby intending to afford them a lower status. In Lurgan, then, we are proud to have three wonderful public places of worship for Catholics: St Peter's church, St Paul's church and the Adoration chapel. Children Learn What They Live. If a child lives with criticism, they learn to condemn. If a child lives with hostility, they learn to fight. If a child lives with ridicule, they learn to be shy. If a child lives with shame, they learn to feel guilty. If a child lives with tolerance, they learn to be patient. If a child lives with encouragement, they learn confidence. If a child lives with praise, they learn to appreciate. If a child lives with fairness, they learn justice. If a child lives with security, they learn to have faith. If a child lives with approval, they learn to like themselves. If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, they learn to find love in the world.
