This summer is a great op-portunity to prepare for the 2016-17 school year. Attend the Kentucky Parent Teach-er Association (PTA) Leader-

ship Convention in Louisville at Chancey Elementary School on July 15 and 16. Go to www.kypta.org for more information.

Attend the 15th District PTA Back to School/Back to PTA Conference on Sep-tember 27 at our new location. This year’s conference will be held at Flaget Confer-ence Center, 1935 Lewiston Drive, off of Dixie Highway. More details will follow in our August newsletter.

Do not forget to attend a community board training, where we go over bylaws, job de-scriptions, and correct procedures for your entire board to follow. Check out our web-site and Facebook and Twitter pages for dates, times, and locations as they are scheduled.

Here are some things you must do to start the year right:

• Turn in your fundraiser submissions to the principal for approval before June 15. If you miss this date, your PTA will not be permitted to do a major schoolwide fund-raiser for the 2016-17 school year.

• Pay 15th District PTA membership dues for the 2016-17 school year. They are due by October 1.

• In addition, one payment must be made to Kentucky PTA for your state and national membership dues by October 15.

• The treasurer’s books for the 2015-16 school year must be audited. Submit the PTA Financial Review Form to the 15th District PTA and the Kentucky PTA no lat-er than July 15.

• Every PTA must file a 990 with the Inter-nal Revenue Service (IRS) and send copies to the 15th District PTA and the Kentucky PTA by November 15.

• Every PTA must purchase insurance. Through the Underwriters Group, the cost is $337. Payment needs to made by Sep-tember 30. This is mandatory under the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE).
