Minors Ages 14-15Minors Ages 14-15

• No Minors may work during the hours when they are required to attend school.

• May work farm labor & selling/distributing newspapers:– No more than 3 hours on any school day– No more than 8 hours on a Saturday or non-

school day– No more than 18 hours in any week– No more than 6 days in any week

• If employed as part of a NYS Approved Work Experience Program:

– May work 3 hours on a school day– May work 23 total hours a week

Night WorkNight Work• Under 16 years of age:

– Between Labor Day to June 20• May not work between 7pm - 7am in most

jobs after Labor Day to June 20

– Between June 21st to Labor Day• May not work between 9pm - 7am

(Newspaper carriers – no working between 7pm & 5am)

(Street trades – no working between 7pm & 6am)

Night WorkNight Work

• 16-17 years of age– No working between midnight -6am when

school is not in session

– May work after 10pm – midnight during the school year ONLY with written consent by a parent and in good academic standing at school

There are many laws regarding when minors may work. It is the employer’s job to follow the laws.

It is your job to make sure that you have provided your employer with working papers and your social security number. Do not work “off the books” or “under the table”. It is against the law.
