Teachers Needed We are seeking teachers to become part of the
elementary team, which teaches the students one
month on and one month off. We are also in need
of additional adult class teachers who would be
willing to step in and take on a class for a quarter,
or be available to substitute. With the addition of
new babies, we have a need for assistance with our
little ones from birth to Kindergarten.
My question to you is: Perhaps you hear the
Lord’s call to step up, assist and grow in His Love by
serving Him through teaching and leading others. If
God is speaking to you about serving, please see
Pastor Mark, Pastor Mike, or Kathy Tucker to share
in this ministry.

Children's Choir Rehearsals begin January 6th @6pm
Your child is invited to participate in our upcoming
children’s musical. We will be presenting an exciting
performance of “BACK TO THE CROSS” on Sunday, March
20th at 11am. This musical takes us in a time traveling
machine through many different eras….remember the
ancient times of the 1980’s…while teaching important
Bible lessons.
All children grades K-6 are welcome to join the choir and in addition there will be
auditions for acting roles and solos. Rehearsals will be held Wednesday evenings
from 6-6:50pm in the Upper Room at Bethany. The first rehearsal is January 6th,
so be sure to mark it on your calendar.
Encourage your son or daughter to give it a try - we’re sure they will have a great
time doing it! For more info contact Erin Madak or Robyn Miller.
Be Our Guest January Sermon Series
This Series will address the issue of Guests. It kicks off
January 17th with the question; Guests – do we really want
them here? When we invite guests to our house, it means
that we have to clean, we have to entertain and be on our best behavior. Is that
what we really want or is it easier just not to invite guests to come? On January
24th we will look at the difference between guests and visitors. Often when
someone visits, they show up unexpected but when we invite someone to be our
guest, we are planning on them being there. The last Sunday in January we will
ask the question; Guests – are we really ready for them? Join us during the month
of January as we focus on having others “Be Our Guest.”

Thank You! Syrian Refugee Crisis—Samaritan's Purse
On behalf of the Missions Committee, we want to thank all of you in
the Bethany family for your contributions to Samaritan’s Purse. These
contributions will help those in the Syrian crisis with their immediate
physical needs. Bethany collected over $5,500! Thank you for being
an extension of God’s love to those in need.
Run for God is back at Bethany! January 24th @ 6pm
‘Run for God’ kickoff meeting will be on January 24th at 6pm in Bethany’s Teen Room.
We won’t be doing any running the first night. Instead, we will be meeting one another
and going over the year’s plan. We will have the Devotions books available for a
suggested donation and will also be taking orders for Run-for-God shirts. If you’re
interested in this club and want to know more, but are not ready to commit, this will be
the night to come. We will be studying God’s Word with the aid of the second edition of Devotions from RunforGod.com.
The training plan will be similar to our past events but the spiritual content will be brand new. If you are ready to commit now, go to the following website and sign up: www.runforgod.com/class/
bethany-baptist-run-for-god. Please see Justin Kane for any questions.

Christmas 2015
Souled Out Kicks Off The New Year
Can you believe it’s 2016!?!? There’s a tendency for a lot of TV shows to
look back at the year that was. Top 10, 50 or 100 lists of the previous year
start popping up all over the place. Perhaps we look back because it’s
easier to see where we’ve been than where we are going. There’s no
crystal ball revealing what 2016 will have in store, but, there are some
things you can do to make sure that this coming year is one of the best
yet. Committing to being at Souled Out each week can have a huge
influence on who you will become in the future. Know that each Wednesday night young people have a
chance to build relationships with others in an atmosphere of fun and acceptance. Where hopefully, we
will discover something about ourselves, the God who loves us, and the plan He has for our lives. Don’t
miss a single Wednesday night, starting at 7pm on January 6.

Bethany’s new pictorial directory will be in your church

your photo taken, we will have a limited number of
directories available at the Welcome Center.
Do you every wish that you could put a name with a face?
The new directory will be a great tool to help all of us get to
know other members and build deeper relationships with
them. Please remember this is for personal use only.

SPOTLIGHT ON MISSIONS
Bethany’s Missions Committee Goal
...to equip and enable members and friends of Bethany to be personally involved in obeying the Great Commission
...to provide a support system for our missions families who are following the Lord in reaching out into the world.
Missionary of the week, January 2016 January 3-Rick & Christy G. are working in Prague in the Czech Republic with Pioneers. Their
ministry includes church planting, evangelism, & discipleship. Rick is the son of Dick & Vicki G., who
are also Bethany missionaries. They have four children: Rich III, a student at Liberty University,
Megan, Josiah, and Rebecca.
January 10— Dave & MaryAnn B. are former Bethany members who left for Taiwan in 1982 with SEND
Intl. They served at the Morrison Academy for missionary kids for several years. After the fall of the
iron curtain missionaries began to enter the Eastern European countries, and there was a need to
provide for the education of their children. Dave helped form a new organization to deal with that
opportunity. Now retired, they are still active as conference speakers concerning missionary kids’
education.
January 17—Nancy Murphy and her husband Tom served with Biblical Ministries Worldwide for many
years, first in The Netherlands and later in Ireland. Now widowed, Nancy is retired in Ireland & still
serving where she can. She is the mother of our missionary, Dan Murphy.
January 24—Marty & Debbie S. have been supported by Bethany for about 14 years. Their ministries have
been mainly in Europe. Due to German visa requirements they are in the USA right now, but are able
to continue some of their work via computer. Prior to this year Debbie was teaching at the Black
Forest Academy. Marty is involved in special projects with Teach Beyond.
January 31—Marvin Cowan is involved in church planting with a special outreach to Mormons in Utah. He
has been reaching Mormons since 1960 and remains active today. He lost his dear wife, Janet to
cancer almost two years ago. Marv asks prayer for the churches at Tooele, Timpanogos Baptist
Church in Lehi, Bountiful Heights Church in Bountiful, and Grace Baptist Church in Ogden.
Merry Christmas to Bethany’s Missionary Families Bethany’s families gave so faithfully and generously this past year, that the
Missions Committee was able to send a token monetary gift to all of our
missionaries. They have expressed many times, over the years, how much these
gifts mean to them both monetarily and emotionally. They are always grateful for
your love and support. On behalf of the Missions Committee we thank each of you.
Below are some of the personal notes sent to Bethany’s family:
Ben Hagerup: Thank you very much for the gift you sent our family. What a pleasant treat this
Christmas season. This fall we had to have a dead tree removed because it was a danger to us and our
neighbors. This was an unexpected expense and your gift helped by covering 1/3 of the cost. Praise God.
(He also mentioned that he is still using the LL Bean coat and tools we gave him 15 years ago!)
Marty & Debbie S.: We thank you so very much for blessing us with a Christmas gift! We feel loved with
your generosity.
Nancy Murphy: Thank you very much for the Christmas card and gift. We have 14 different nationalities
in our church now and all is well and people are growing in Christ. Praise the Lord!
Barbara Blackburn: Many thanks for your card and gift for Christmas and your support throughout the
years. May the Lord continue to bless you as you serve Him.
Lee & Lonna Lowell: You all are such a blessing to us. We are so thankful for your love and support
through the years. Thank you for the Christmas gift that you sent to us.
Dave & MaryAnn B.—Thank you again for your kind gift at Christmas time. Thank you for still caring for
us in so many ways since wa-a-a-y back in 1969. We send our love and gratitude.
Note: If you would like more information about any of these missionaries, please contact any member of the Mission Board

GEMS News (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior)
December Update A big thank you to our GEMS girls who took
two separate days out of their schedule to sing
for others. On December 3, 2015, the girls
traveled to Trinity Lutheran in Clinton Township
to sing for the MOPS Christmas Party. The
MOPS program is a ministry of the Crisis
Pregnancy Center. The girls did their best to
share some Christmas spirit that night as well
as singing at Clinton-Aire nursing home on
Saturday, December 12th. After singing several
songs for the residents of Clinton-Aire, they
shared Christmas cards and decorations that they made for them. A big
THANK YOU to Ruth Manzella for teaching the girls their songs this year
and to all the GEMS leaders that assisted. We hope everyone has a blessed Christmas and we look forward to
seeing all the girls back in club on Wednesdays, starting January 6th, for
another fun year of learning and adventures. MARK YOUR CALENDARS:
Our GEMS girls overnighter will be at Bethany on February 5-6, 2016 and
our GUYS and GIRLS NIGHT is scheduled for
February 10th.

man giving his life for the sake of children who had no hope, and also to
see the young filmmaker whose life was changed forever by witnessing
it. This book is emotional and profound in every way.” Jon Erwin
