AboutWestfieldHousingAssociationWeareasmallcharitablehousingassociationbasedinWorkington,WestCumbria.Rootedin,andgrowingfrom,ourcommunitybase,wearecommittedtoimprovingtheserviceswedeliver,withinasustainableframework.Wearedelightedthatweconsistentlyachievehighlevelsofsatisfactionwithourlandlordservices.WhiletheAssociation’soriginslieintheprovisionofhomesforkeyworkersinthelocalironandsteelindustryinthe1950’s,wehavediversifiedourserviceswhileretainingourAllerdalefocus.OurofficeisintheMintoCentreontheWestfieldEstate,formerlyaprimaryschoolwhichwepurchasedandconvertedasacommunityresource.TheCentrenowaccommodatestheAssociation,WorkingtonSureStartChildren’sCentre(runbyBarnardo’s)andFootstepsNurserywhichisownedbytheAssociationandprovidesachildcaresettingforupto108children.Overthelastfiveyears,theAssociationhasgrownattherateofaround13propertiesperannumwiththecurrentdevelopmentprogrammefocussedonSection106purchasesfromdevelopersandbuyingbackpropertiesontheWestfieldEstatepreviouslylostthroughtheRight-to-Buy.Currentlywehave594propertiesinownership.Weareacommunityandtenant-centredassociationandourapproachtoservicedeliveryisshapedbythis.Largelyasaresponsetothecurrentexternalenvironment(rentrestrictions,theVoluntaryRight-to-Buy,welfarereform)theAssociationhasadoptedacautiousstrategicapproachinrecentyears.InappointinganewChiefExecutiveatthepointwheresomeclarityisemergingonthefundingofsupportedhousingandrentsettlementpost2020,wearelookingtoreviewour2017–2020BusinessPlanandshapeourfuture,withinourrecentlyre-affirmedstrategicobjectives:ToincreasethenumberandenhancethequalityofstockinownershipinAllerdaleTocontinuetoimprovebusinessefficiencyandeffectiveness

SusanisaretiredrestaurantworkerwhobecameatenantwiththeAssociationin1993followingatransferofstockfromAllerdaleCouncil.SheisalsoamemberoftheAssociation’sNeighbourhoodInvestmentCommittee.
Susanhasagoodknowledgeofthelocalneighbourhoodandaninterestintheestateandthefutureplansforherenvironment.
CarolFrench
CarolworksasateachingassistantwithchildrenhavingspecialeducationalneedsattheWorkingtonAcademySchoolandisatenantoftheAssociation.Shehaslivedinoneofouroriginalhousessince1989withhertwo,nowverygrownupchildren.SheisalsoamemberoftheAssociation’sNeighbourhoodInvestmentCommittee.
KenMansell
Kenisaretiredlocalgovernmentaccountantand,formerly,theAssociation’saccountant,withanindepthknowledgeofhousingfinance.
AfterhisretirementfromtheAssociationin2007,hejoinedtheBoardandiscommittedtoencouragingtheAssociationtocontinuetodevelopbyincreasingitsstockofpropertiesandprovidingthetenantswiththebestpossibleservice.

MikehasextensiveexperienceofprivateandpublichousinginitiativesandhehasplayedanationalhousingrolethroughtheLocalGovernmentOrganisation.AsDirectorofHousingandCommunityServicesandActingChiefExecutiveforAllerdale,MikeplayedaleadingroleinmajorregenerationprojectsacrossAllerdaleincludingtheredevelopmentofWorkingtonTownCentreandtheAllerdalehousingstocktransfer.
MikeispassionateaboutenvironmentalissuesandwasanactivememberofKeepBritainTidy,chairingtheFinanceandAuditCommitteeandultimatelyChairmanoftheNationalBoardfor6years.
In2014hewasawardedanOBEintheQueen’sBirthdayHonour’slistforhisworkwithcommunitiesandtheenvironment.

Bobhasaprofessionalbackgroundinretailbankingandrunningafamilymailorderbusiness.Sinceretiring,hehasmanagedalocaldebtandmoneyadvicecharityandhasbeenavolunteerwiththeNorthLakesFoodbank.

Philiphasastrongbeliefinsocialhousingandtheextendedroleitcanplaywithincommunities.AsAllerdaleisahousingauthority,hehasalwaysbeenawareofchangesinhousinglegislationandhousingpolicies.
Philiprecentlyretiredafterover40yearsintheNHSfirstlyasanurseandthenworkingintheambulanceservice.

Karenisaqualifiedaccountantwithexperienceinhealth,careandeducation.Withintheserolesshehasgainedexperienceoffinancialmanagementandreporting,corporategovernance,strategicmanagement,riskmanagement,propertydevelopmentandmaintenance,qualitymanagementsystemsandHumanResources.KarenhasprojectmanagementexperienceandisAPMqualified.
