In addition to the wealth of insight into data development, data governance and innovation, the summit will dissect the role of the Chief Data Officer like never before.

Excellence in data management is key to both entry and sustainability in the market. Investing in a Chief Data Officer could be transformational for your company. With this in mind, the world’s leading Chief Data Officers will be in attendance to discuss the organizational structures within which they exist, and the benefits their companies have seen from adding a Data Officer to the C-suite.

Organizations looking to compete with data simply cannot afford to miss the Chief Data Officer Summit.

About The Summit

As the State Chief Data Officer, Dianna is responsible for champion ing the deve lopment , adopt ion , and maintenance of the enterprise-wide information architecture (EIA) across the State and Local agencies. She is responsible for defining the EIA organization, governance, processes, and technology infrastructure, and for leading the integration of those capabilities within related state business and information management practices. Dianna leads and facilitates the creation of data governance principles and best practices, Master Data Management (MDM), Big Data Analytics, Data Quality, Data Integration, metadata management and Business Intelligence strategies and policies.

The Chief Data Officer Role- Knowledge Means Change

In the last 5 years a relatively new Executive role, Chief Data Officer, has been added to both the private and public sector C-Level. Businesses and government have increasingly become aware of the value of information technology, data integration, business intelligence, as well as the value of data as an enterprise asset. The management and analytics of data has become more visible and crucial to both the private and public enterprise. My path to this role wasn’t your typical career path. Rather it was atypical. But if you think about it, changes in technology tend to be atypical as well. Being agile to options for both career and technology has created an abundance of opportunities.

Open Data Grows Up

Open Data began as a movement propelled by executive orders to release data. New localities continue to announce open data initiatives and Data.gov states that 39 states and 46 cities and counties have open data sites. Open data has unlocked a data ecosystem - from consumer facing apps to increases in government transparency. And now it’s time for open data to move past   initiative and become part of doing business. Learn how San Francisco is working to institutionalize its open data initiative.

Lessons From the Trenches: Building & Implement ing a Data Governance Framework

The understanding of the importance of data quality and ultimately the need data governance is known and exponentially growing.   Senior Executives understand that good data quality can be tied to many (if not all) of the enterprise objectives. The top three include: Reduce Cost, Improve Growth, and Reduce Risk.   The question...therefore is not around the what or thewhy but about the how.  More specifically; how should an enterprise implement a data governance framework and more importantly how can it evidence "optimized" data maturity. This presentation will focus entirely on answering those questions and will use real case studies to highlight lessons learned and best practices.

Three Keys to Building Success and Traction with your CEO and C-Suite Peers

Chief Data Officers face many challenges and obstacles to success when they take the role. One of the biggest is how the organization participates or does not participate with the role. Based on findings from IBM Institute for Business Value C-suite studies, this session focuses on three keys for building traction and success: 1) prioritizing initiatives for highest impact, 2) generating traction through small successes (breaking down data siloes), and 3) creating data and analytics strategy that garners impact now and builds toward the future.

Deriving Conclusions from Data

The Gold standard to prove   casualty is the randomized control experiment, but this is not enough. It is also necessary to understand that to have a culture of experimentation, we first need to understand that when an idea fails, this is not an error and important lessons can be learned. This presentation will going to review not only the  necessity of randomized control experiments or A/B Testing , but the design, lessons learned , and the cultural challenges of organizations to become data driven.

Building a Data Driven Culture

For many businesses, data is now considered among their most important assets.  This realization has shifted the focus on data from the IT organization to business decision makers.   Business leaders understand what value data can bring to making timely, well-informed and impactful decisions, but only if it is managed, understood and governed consistently across the organization.   From a technology perspective, many data management disciplines and technologies can be deployed, but first, siloes within the IT organization, each historically focused on a narrow set of capabilities, need to be broken down.   Complementing this, the business needs to clearly articulate its data requirements to IT, and conversely, IT needs to be accepting of the fact that, more and more, requirements will come from the business, rather than being IT driven.
