Happy Holidays!

Despite the crazy fall we’ve had, I’m glad to have met so many of you throughout the past few months. Even though it’s not fair time, the 4-H world is still buzzing! Be sure to check out the 2019 award recipients. Congrats to all! I’m excited to host my first workshop this month. Surely there are a few kids that could use a chance to get out and make friends while school is out! I have a great day planned so RSVP soon to get a spot!

108 N Owl St in Lawler.

If you plan to participate in State Fair, you will need

to weigh in at a different site. Please call the Chicka-

saw County Extension Office if you plan to exhibit 4-

H beef at the Iowa State Fair. Ear tags can be pur-

chased at weigh-in for $3.00 each, please bring exact

cash or check.

4-H Online that the weigh-in data was entered cor-

rectly by staff. Please contact Eleni in the Extension

Office with any corrections. Final Beef verification

weights and ID’s will be due by January 15th in 4-H

Online. If verification is not completed by January

Leader Information Please update the office with your current leaders and

volunteers. Background screenings are done on all lead-

ers/volunteers every 3 years. All leaders/volunteers also

need to enroll in 4-H Online to be covered under the 4-H

insurance policy.

dra Crooks at [email protected] for dates of neighbor-

Club Yearly Calendar/Program Planning

Club Program Books, a bank statement to the

extension office confirming their previous account has

been closed, inventory of club supplies, and a projected

budget should also be turned in to the office by Decem-

ber 1st.

Enrollment Payment Process

Ideally, enrollment fees are collected at a club

meeting and then the club makes the deposit into the

club account. However, individual enrollment fees will

also be accepted at the office and deposited into the club

account. Receipts will then be sent to the club leaders

and treasurer by email.

In early December, after the initial re-enrollment

deadline, invoices will be created for each club listing

each member and amount due based on their enrollment

and whether they turned in a record book for the 2018-

2019 year. Clubs will have at least 30 days to review their

invoice and provide any changes needed to the office.

Payments will then be automatically transferred from the

club account to the enrollment account in the second pay

period of January 2020 which would be the week of Janu-

ary 20th.

A second billing period for late enrollments will

occur after June 1st with payments automatically trans-

ferred the second pay period of July which would be the

week of July 20th.

2020 Ag Innovators Experience Iowa 4-H has a potential opportunity coming up in 2020 for teens to lead the 2020 Ag Innovators Expe-rience (AIE). This year AIE will focus on issues in wa-ter quality. This is a great leadership opportunity for teens in grades 8-12 who are interested in agricul-ture, conservation, environmental sciences, and/or horticulture. If you have youth who you think would be interested in this program, please contact Carli Erickson at [email protected] for more information.

2020 Agri-Science Summit Iowa 4-H is now accepting applications for the 2020 Agri-Science Summit. This summit in Washington DC is a great opportunity for youth in grades 9-12 to learn about topics in agriculture and share their knowledge with others. You can learn more about the Agri-Science Summit at https://4hcenter.org/tours-programs/national-youth-summits/#!agri-science

2020 Healthy Living Ambassador Healthy Living Ambassador applications are being received through Friday, Dec. 13, with interviews and selection decided by Friday, Dec. 20. Check out the www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/iowa-4-h-healthy-living-ambassadors for details on the role and how to apply. Chickasaw’s own Natalie Marr served as a 2019 Ambassador. Learn more about her experience below!

“I applied in November and did a zoom interview in De-cember. Throughout the interview I shared my ideas on ways we can bring health opportunities to Iowa youth. The first call of action was a team meeting at the state 4-H office in Ames. At this meeting we prepared for our trip to the National Healthy Living Summit in Washington DC (February). Upon our return from DC we had zoom meetings on certain Sundays in a month and a few meetings at Clover Woods. We worked on planning a state level retreat. My favorite part of being on the Healthy Living Ambassador team was meeting youth who are passionate about health and learning from them. I was able to grow my viewpoint on health and teach others. If you are interested in expanding your knowledge on health, and empowering others, don’t be afraid to apply!“
