DiscoveryHang Out with King Tut

King Tut was just a child when he ruled Egypt more than 3,000 years ago. Read through this month’s Discovery and ask students to create a “day-in-the-life” poster of King Tut. Students should examine the art and text closely to imagine what being a king might look and feel like.

Teacher Prompts:

• Where does King Tut live?

• How does he get around from place to place?

• Where does he go to school?

• What does he like to eat?

• What sorts of decisions do you have to make when you’re king?

• How does King Tut dress? Compare that to how other people in ancient Egypt dress.

• What does the king like to do for fun?

• Based on the art, what is the weather like in ancient Egypt?

• What does the term “pharaoh” mean?

Posters are a wonderful way to present facts and information in a visual way. Encourage students to add drawings, photographs, and infographic elements like charts and lists to make their posters more interesting.
