SOFTBALL TEAM COMPETED IN

WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!

Chesterfield Little League's softball team won the Virginia State tournament, fought a tough battle, and came out on top at Regionals in Warner Robins, GA last month. They are one of ten teams from around the country that made it to the Little League Softball World Series. Chesterfield Little League lost a tough game against Oklahoma in the Little League Softball World Series championship game. The team was led by manager Bill Fiege and coaches Kim Bossler and Steve My-ers. The team has done a fantastic job representing Chesterfield Little League and VA throughout this tournament!

HISTORY

This week an archaeology camp was held at Historic Trinity Church for chil-dren ages 8-12, allowing them to learn how to search for clues from the past and experience all about the field of archaeology. The participants were pro-vided an introduction to archaeology with engaging activities including con-ducting site surveys, site mapping, es-tablishing grids, conducting shovel test pits, performing archaeological excava-tions, learning proper measurement techniques, documenting, identifying and analyzing artifacts, learning about weather patterns and impact to past cultures, experiencing layers of soil, artifact repair and reconstruction, soil surveys, and documentation. Partici-pants learned about evidence that re-mains at a dig site by looking for fea-tures and learning about architectural designs.

HENRICUS HISTORICAL PARK

Henricus Historical Park held a Civil War Days event Saturday, Aug. 14. Over 20 living history interpreters were on the Dutch Gap overlook with many visitors to entertain with musket firings and cooking demon-strations despite the weather. Preparation included digging rifle pits beforehand by the Henricus staff along with park maintenance staff from District 1 and trail crew members. Many thanks for the extra help.

BENSLEY RECREATION CENTER

Seniors enjoyed strolling down memory lane during this retro-themed social on Monday, Aug. 16. A delicious lunch was provided by Homemades by Su-zanne. A musical performance was pro-vided by singer Amy Ladd. 30 people were in attendance. Raffles and door prizes were given to participants. Sen-iors Helping Seniors was a vendor and gave away a $25 Outback gift card to one lucky winner!

SPORTS TOURISM

The USA Swimming Eastern Zones were held at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center on Wednesday, Aug. 4 through Sat-urday, Aug. 7. On hand were nearly 550 of the best swimmers aged 10-14 from Maine to Virginia competing in both individual and team competition. In order to participate, each swimmer had to meet a championship qualifying time. Swimmers were seeded for preliminary races with the top times qualifying for event finals. When the wake settled at the pool, Virginia won all three team titles, boys, girls, and combined.

SPORTS TOURISM

The International Senior Softball World Championships were held Aug. 11-15. Harry G. Daniel Park at Iron Bridge was one of the sites used for this region-wide event. Over 100 teams of players aged 40-80 in 14 divi-sions participated in both pool and champi-onship play during the weekend. Along with the games, special events such as the Home Run Derby and Awards Ceremony kept participants busy. Awards were given to the top three teams in each division with champions receiving World Champion rings, while individual awards were given for outstanding offensive and defensive players and MVP in each division.
