ST. CHRISTOPHERS CHURCH CHESTER, MARYLAND SEPTEMBER 19, 2021 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, As we read the second reading from Jas. 3:16 – 4:3, we come to understand the motivation for many problems in our world today. We also come to understand the work of God in the midst of it that cannot be truly thwarted – after all, He has us! Ponder these words from our second reading today and correct and order your own passion so that they align with the will of God through His Son Jesus Christ and know the difference He makes through you in the world today and every day. Beloved: Where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every foul practice. But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace. Where do the wars and where do the conflicts among you come from? Is it not from your passions that make war within your members? You covet but do not possess. You kill and envy but you cannot obtain; you fight and wage war. You do not possess because you do not ask. You ask but do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your pas- sions. Pax Christi, Vy. Rev. John B. Gabage, V.F. ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CHURCH CHESTER, MARYLAND SEPTEMBER 19, 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, As we read the second reading from Jas.

Beloved:

Where jealousy and selfish ambition exist,

there is disorder and every foul practice.

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure,

then peaceable, gentle, compliant,

full of mercy and good fruits,

without inconstancy or insincerity.

And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace

for those who cultivate peace.

Where do the wars

and where do the conflicts among you come

from?

Is it not from your passions

that make war within your members?

You covet but do not possess.

You kill and envy but you cannot obtain;

you fight and wage war.

You do not possess because you do not ask.

You ask but do not receive,

because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your pas-

sions.

Pax Christi,

Vy. Rev. John B. Gabage, V.F.

the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, Thank You! If you have not, we ask that you please consider doing so. Pledge enve-lopes are available in the Narthex of the Church or the Parish Office. You can also make a pledge and/or get more information about the Annual Appeal by visiting: www.cdow.org/annualcatholicappeal If you have made a pledge, be sure to make any out-standing payments. Monies not collected will need to be made up through parish funds!

Because our list of the sick during our Universal Pray-ers (Prayers of the Faith-ful) is becoming unwield-ly, beginning this week we will add our sick parish-

ioners to the spoken prayers for two consecutive weeks. If the person still requires prayer after the initial two weeks, their name will be added to our Prayer Petition book which is located in the Narthex of the church. All those whose names are included in this book will continue to be prayed for at every mass. Of course, if a person’s illness worsens or they are in crisis, their name can be announced again that week. Please remember, only the sick person or their immediate family may add a name to the prayer list. Additionally, only members of our parish should be added to the list. Thank you for your un-derstanding and cooperation.

Next week, parishioners throughout the diocese will be asked to help make the dream of a Catholic education a reality for many struggling Catholic families. Monies raised through this collection coupled with the dio-cese’s tuition assistance endowment provides financial assistance to hundreds of deserving families who seek a Catholic education for their children but who cannot afford the full cost of tuition. Through this collection, our Bishop is reaching out to believing and worshipping Catholics like you to assist him in ensuring the Catholic commitment to total edu-cation of our children does not fade away because peo-ple cannot afford it. Since the Church has the mission to educate and this mission directly affects the quality of life we experience as Catholics, all of us have a stake in Catholic education. I ask you to generously support next week’s Share in the Spirit collection. God bless you for your ongoing goodness. To learn more about the Share in the Spirit collection and its importance, go to the diocesan website at www.cdow.org/sharespirit.html.
