Chess Club Permission Form / Formulaire d'autorisation du club d'échecs

Dear Parents,

Diefenbaker PAC is pleased to announce the Chess Club is back. Students and parents will have the opportunity to learn and play chess.

Chess club meets between 2:45 and 3:30 pm every Tuesday in the computer room. (Location and time of the chess club may be determined by chess club coordinator as he or she fits.) Each club member will be assigned an opponent and a leaning topic each week. You have one week to complete the match and submit the result of the match along with your learning topic by the Tuesday of next week when the chess club convenes.

Please read how Diefenbaker Chess Club operates.

This year’s chess club do not require any volunteers as the plan is to have it run on its own. I would still prefer students to elect a head of the chess club (this practice is done by Homma School).

The only thing the parent(s) expect(s) to do is to try to help your kid(s) lean chess. Parent(s) play(s) important rolls in a child’s leaning. You should spend 1 to 2 hours per week helping them studying chess.

It is recommended that children grad 3 or below have a parent accompanies them in the club meeting on Tuesday to help them sign in and out of the computer system.

If you wish your kid(s) to joint, please email you to [email protected]. You email address is optional but if you want the coordinator to communicate with you to check on your child or children’s progress, you should provide it. We are not printing this consent form.

Checkmate / Échec et mat!Thank you / Merci

OPERATION PROCEDURE / Procédure d'Opération The school chess club meets every Tuesday between 2:45 to 3:30pm at the computer room. (Location and time of the chess club may be determined by chess club coordinator as he or she fits.) If student can’t make it at the club time, you can still joint the club. Each club member will be assigned an opponent and a leaning topic each week. You have one week to complete the match and submit the result of the match along with your learning topic by the Tuesday of next week when the chess club convenes. When you email a pgn, send the pgn as an attachment to the email.

If you are not there, have your peers deliver the assignments to you or I will email it to you. Not being there on Tuesday does not constitute you forfeiting the chess club, but not finishing your assigned match(es) or learning assignment(s) do constitute you are forfeiting the chess club.

Players will be divided into 2 groups: Grade 6 and 7 and Grade 5 below.

No other games are permitted in the chess club. Please take the chess knowledge quiz to see how much you know about the basic of chess.

Chess game(s) may be play on computer or manually with a chess set. A chess clock is available for competition games. A child must have a chesskid.com and or chess.com account to maximize the fun while as a member.

When you sign up at chesskid.com, you choose a user name like Joethegreat or JaneAlmighty. Once you completed you match and download the PGN (Portable Game Note), chesskid.com name your file:

Joethegreat_vs_JaneAlmighty_2018_09_16.pgn.You have to change file name to reflect your true name ie:

Joe Smith_vs_Jane Chan 0-1.It means Joe Smith (white) played Jane Chan (black) Jane Chan won.

Please see the screen shot next page on how to download PGN(portable game note) All assigned games played must have a record to be official. You must down the full PGN (the one with a result) not partial PGN (the one without a result). Chesskid.com will automatically record the game for you.

I’m hoping I can accomplish this but circumstance dictates. Top 3 players may play in the year end final for a chance to win $25 price courtesy of Diefenbaker Chess Club. The final tournament will be manually conducted. Players must know how to record the game and use the chess clock. The instruction will be given at that time.

All communication of the chess club should be directed to [email protected]. This email is access only by the chess club coordinator and chair or vice chair of the PAC group.
