The Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation (CLF) was established in 2003 and currently operates five (5) charter schools in the state of Maryland with another school planned for Fall of 2018. The Foundation is made up of a Governing Board consisting of nine (9) members with responsibility to oversee the daily operations and business practices at each of the schools. In partnership with the Anne Arundel and Prince George’s County school districts, CLF operates each school by providing a rigorous, technology-integrated curriculum with an emphasis on mathematics, science, and information technologies.
Their mission is accomplished by implementing an innovative curriculum that incorporates technology into instruction while covering Common Core Standard and utilizing hands-on, inquiry-based teaching methods that create an active learning environment and a student centered educational system. CLF schools strive for excellence and have been very successful in state mandated MSA (Maryland School Assessment) tests. In 2013, CLF schools received higher scores than the district and the state in all grade levels and all subjects!
CLF operates one school in Anne Arundel County, Chesapeake Science Point Middle School & High School in Hanover and four schools in Prince George’s County: (1) Chesapeake Math and IT (CMIT) High School in Laurel; (2) CMIT Middle School in Laurel and (3) CMIT Elementary in Laurel; and (4) CMIT Academy South Middle School & High School in Upper Marlboro.
The CLF Chesapeake Science Point (CSP) public charter Middle School & High School in Anne Arundel County is in Hanover, Maryland. This school was CLF’s first school opened in 2005. Chesapeake Science Point School Among Most Challenging in Maryland HANOVER, MD — Many students can skate by in high school with good grades when they choose less challenging courses. But more challenging courses, such as Advanced Placement classes, are what really help teens grow and learn and even earn college credits. With that in mind, the Washington Post recently released its 2017 list of the Most Challenging High Schools in the U.S.
South River High School in Edgewater ranks as number 262 on the national list. Also on the list just one spot higher is Chesapeake Science Point School in Hanover, a county charter school.
The Washington Post ranks schools through an index formula that’s a simple ratio: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year, according to the Washington Post.
