By MIKE MONOSTRA The Sun The final race of the New Jer- sey Public A boys’ swimming championship lasted 3:13.89, but for Cherry Hill East boys’ swimming coach Joseph Cucinotti, it felt like an eternity. Cherry Hill East was battling an old nemesis, No. 1 seed and de- fending champion Westfield. The Cougars hung with Westfield throughout the meet, forcing a winner-take-all matchup in the 400-meter freestyle relay. When junior Duncan Brookover hit the wall in first place to win the final race by 0.12 seconds, the shortcomings and disappointments of years past were wiped away. The Cougars were able to celebrate their first state championship in 13 years. Cherry Hill East stunned West- By MIKE MONOSTRA The Sun Two ordinances were approved last week in the N. John Amato Council Chambers at Cherry Hill Town Hall. One was to implement an organic diver- sion program at Cherry Hill's two high schools, while the other formed a civic society and imple- mented a digital application to help increase voter turnout during elections. However, the Cherry Hill Township Council didn't approve these ordinances. A student-led council was presiding for one evening. And while the ordinances the mock council approved aren't of- ficial, they could be the spring- board for future township initia- tives. This mock council meeting was the culmination of Student Government Day, an annual tra- dition in Cherry Hill. More than a dozen juniors from both Cher- ry Hill High School East and West spent the day working as members of the township staff would. During the day, the students were split into two groups, with each group tasked with creating an initiative to better the township. Ordinances were written, later discussed and voted on during a mock council meeting at night.
