With burgeoning traffic increasing day by day near Tambaram Railway Station on GST Road the Highways department has proposed to construct a pedestrian foot over bridge (FOB)

with escalator facility at an estimated cost of Rs.12 crore.

The department has decided to call for tenders for a consultant to prepare the detailed project report. The department has identified the

place because of heavy flow of traffic and large volume of pedestrians crossing the road. Though there is a zebra crossing at the point, pedestrians suffer to cross the road with non-stop flow

of traffic.The FOB with escalators

at MEPZ as received a very positive feedback from the pedestrians. They say it is very helpful and many of them use the facility. It has also brought down the number of accidents considerably, they opined.

Venkatesan a long time resident suggested that steps must be taken to connect the bridge to one side of the railway station for the benefit of the commuters. This would help eliminate the problem of pedestrian traffic from in front of the station. Also it will be much relief for pedestrians from the pre-paid auto-rickshaw and call taxi stands that make things difficult for commuters to enter and exit the station, he said.

Every day, over 43,500 persons take the Chromepet facility and 28,000 use the one near MEPZ.

Jafferkhanpet Nethaji Nagar Civic Exnora’s special meet to discuss various civic and public grievances in Nethaji Nagar recently. Mr. S. Ranganathan, Zonal officer, Zone 10 Corporation of Chennai, R. Govindaraj, Joint General Secretary, Exnora International, and residents from Nethaji Nagar participated in the meet.

Mr.Pradeep Janakiraman, President, Nethaji Nagar Civic Exnora said that “The key problem faced by us is the piling of garbage as streets are not swept regularly and accumulated garbage is not cleared daily. This accumulation results in an unbearable stink and a breeding ground for mosquitoes”

The Residents complained that lighting in the street is insufficient. This poses problem for ladies and senior

citizens to walk late in the evenings. We need immediate repairs to existing lights and additional street lights to improve illumination with more brightness.

The Nethaji Nagar Main road which is not wide enough has its woes added as the height of the newly laid storm water drain is almost

half feet higher than the existing road level. This has become a hindrance to road users and poses possibilities for accidents. The resident has requested to ensure level of the road with the storm water drain.

Further the residents said that they we will create awareness at Nethaji Nagar

with the assistance of the Corporation to segregate kitchen waste for composting & recyclable wastes to be handed over to conservancy staff.

Mr. S. Ranganathan, Zonal officer, Zone 10 Corporation of Chennai assured the residents that Corporation will take immediate action to rectify the civic issues in Nethaji Nagar. Corporation will introduce door to door collection of garbage in this Nagar and create awareness among the residents on importance of source segregation of waste at the earliest.

Nethaji Nagar Civic Exnora has inducted new office bearers Mr.Pradeep Janakiraman as President; Mr.K.S.Kandasamy as General Secretary and Mr. P.Rajasekar as Treasurer.

The World's largest democratic country India Unfortunately has become a Nation of scams and corruptions. For the past sixty seven years, unscrupulous leaders are dominating the country. The freedom fighters are forgotten. The dreams of our patriotic leaders were shattered. India is a country where the majority of the political leaders are rich princes but the people are kept in a poor condition and they are the real pauper. India received billions of money from rich foreign countries to develop its infra structure and educate the common people. Worthless people began to mesmerise the people by their taunts and false promises became great leaders by pushing the true patriots to the back yards. People were divided on the basis of castes and languages. The funds we got for the development went into hands of worthless leaders. The aids received for Nation building were misappropriated. Politics has become a roaring business.

The undeserving people contest elections and they bribe the people. The ignorant people elect them as their representatives, from Panchayat to Parliament. Money is given and gifts are distributed to voters. Ultimate result is people

elect corrupt candidates. This paves way for their jungle raj. Majority of the elected representatives of the local bodies, MLAs of the State Assembly become dictators by sheer money and muscle power. People are enslaved by them.

Whenever there is a construction activity the owners have to bribe the EB officials, local body chiefs and councillors, apart from paying the government. When a project like road laying or constructing storm water drains, a huge sum of money is being spent. This Money is collected as taxes from the people by the government. Unfortunately, the people have no right to question them. During rainy season, the storm water drains with full of sewage water is let into the open fields and plots which surround a residential areas. Almost every councillor of the local bodies owns a bulldozer and groups of paid coolies as their slaves. Affluent and mighty politicians bring poor labourers from the neighbouring states like Andhra and Odisha and make them live in huts in the porompok and lake areas which are being shrunk already by encroachments. The local bodies never bother to provide safe drinking water or develop

infrastructures. Sordid acts of misappropriation of funds by the councillors, irrespective of party affiliation, join hands in sharing the booty and land grabing. If no place is left for constructing a sewage plant, people let sewage water into the storm water drains and this dirty water pollute the already shrunken lakes and rivers. The governing authorities have no time to restore the water resources. But they are keen on amassing wealth during their tenure.

Our natural resources like sand, granite and coal etc ; are already been looted. Whether a MLA or a MP or a councillor of political parties or political party leaders have their own men of criminal records as body guards. Criminals occupying high positions is indeed a major concern. Politicos who looted public money run hospitals, educational institutions etc; People with slave mentality have to live in this lawless society. Youngsters go behind worthless cinema heroes and criminal politicos and caste leaders. People wrongly understood the word 'right'. They think littering the environment, shouting slogans, behaving in a uncultured manner in the public places as they please etc; are their rights. Goons are hired by criminal

and caste leaders to eliminate their rivals whenever they want. As are the leaders so are the cadres. Patriotism is lost. Devotion to unworthy leaders is deep rooted. We see mad rush for money and power among the politicos. The influence of cinemas, TV serials, the taunts and the hatred speeches of the leaders corrupt the minds of youngsters. This drive them towards the negative path. Morality has become a question mark. Youngsters argue that kissing in the public and wearing indecent dresses are their birth rights.

The net result of misunderstanding of the rights make the mighty think themselves as the 'Rajas'. The criminal dadas are the dukes. The power centred men are totally corrupted. Right from the local councillors all are behaving like dictators. We got the freedom from the British but our freedom got stolen by the local political goons. Can we say that we are enjoying the real freedom? INDIA TODAY has been made a country of scams and scandals. Thanks to the unscrupulous politicos.

Now atleast, the people have to think in the right direction. Elect good leaders who have good characters. Very few honest men who give voice for the right are to be encouraged. Whistle

blowers are subjected to harassment and life threat. Politicians with criminal records who act as dictators are to be weeded out from our society. Let the total parasites which suck the blood of our Mother Land understand that 'might is not right'

Ceaucescu the Romanian dictator, Adolf Hitler, Musoulini, Idi Amin and communist regimes of Europe have disappeared. The present kings and dukes of India should remember that noble actions and good service to the Nation and the people are always remembered. As elected representatives, the uncrowned kings have to improve the standard of living of the poor. Life full of vices is a passport to the land of diseases. Let these princes not accumulate sins which will later tell upon their off springs.

Let us all wish that the new patriotic government at the centre will give the people of this country genuine freedom, peace, prosperity and freedom from the uncrowned dictators.

We hope to see a new India from what INDIA IS TODAY.

Method: Add jaggery and 1/2 cup of water. After the jaggery

melts in water switch off and strain when it comes to room temperature, to remove impurities

Take a little water in a small bowl. This is to check the consistency of the jaggery. Just add a few drops of boiling jaggery into the water. If you could make it a hard ball, then switch off the flame. Otherwise allow it to boil till that consistency is reached

Keep the peanuts in a wide bowl and pour the jaggery to it. Mix it nicely with a ladle

Take some rice flour in a bowl and rub them in hands, and make some balls when it is warm. Do not leave for longtime as it will be difficult to handle if left for a longtime

If peanut and jaggery become sticky and difficult to handle, heat it in low flame for few seconds and the jaggery will melt and can make balls easily

Can add dry ginger while melting jaggeryIf you are using unroasted peanuts, dry Roast the peanuts

and use it. If using the peanuts with skin, dry roast and rub the skin off

Can be stored in air tight containers and kept in room temperature

Kadalai mittai Peanut – 1 cup + 1/2 cup

(I used Unsalted, roasted peanuts)

jaggery – 3/4 cup

Cardamom powder – 1/4 tsp

Rice flour / Ghee – to grease (I used Rice flour)

Avoid using excess Rice flour for greasing hand as it may leave a white layer. Ghee can also be used instead of rice flour
