This is a collection of 33 papers, in camera- ready copy, presented at the First International Conference on Dye-Protein Interactions, held at the University ‘of Compeigne in July 1988. The topics include basic studies of dye-protein inter- action, applications in chromatographic and affin- ity separations, uses in blood and plant protein purifications, and studies on nucleic acids. The dyes are mainly azo-triazine dyes such as Cibach- ron Blue F3GA. The book provides a good over- view of this particular type of interaction, and of applications that show great promise for analytical separations as well as in biotechnological processes.

This is a collection of 28 tutorial articles pub- lished in the first 5 volumes of the journal Chem- ometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems (late 1986 to mid 1989). They are organised into sec- tions dealing with computers in the laboratory (including LIMS and scientific word processing), expert systems, experimental design and optimis- ation, and signal processing and related subjects. The second half of the book is devoted mainly to multivariate methods and associated techniques, and ends with a very readable article by Otto on “Fuzzy Theory Explained”. This is a very useful collection of articles, designed to provide instruc- tion and information in an area that is becoming increasingly important to analytical scientists. The authors are amongst the foremost practitioners of the subject, and the book will be appreciated by other users, teachers and students alike.
