Two new zinc phos- phates, [NH 3 (CH 2 ) 2 NH 2 (CH 2 ) 3 NH 3 ] [Zn 2 (PO 4 )(HPO 4 ) 2 ] ·H 2 O (I) and [NH 3 (CH 2 ) 2 NH 2 (CH 2 ) 3 NH 3 ] [Zn 3 (PO 4 )(HPO 4 ) 3 ] (II), are synthesized in the presence of N-(2-aminoethyl)-1,3-diaminopropane from a mixture of ZnO, HCl, H 3 PO 4 , and H 2 C 2 O 4 in THF/H 2 O (autoclave, 75 C, 3–5 d (II)). As revealed by single crystal XRD, (I) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2 1 /c with Z = 4 and (II) in the triclinic space group P 1 with Z = 2. Both structures consist of ZnO 4 , PO 4 , and (H)PO 4 tetrahedral units linked through their vertices. The structure of (I) is built up from one-dimensional zigzag ladders, whereas (II) has a three-dimensional structure with large bifurcated channels. (I) transforms into (II) on heating under appropriate conditions and appears to have a close structural relationship with (II). — (NATARAJAN, SRINIVASAN; Chem. Commun.
