16 - 017Magnetic Properties of Ln3Cu4Sn4 (Ln: Ce, Gd and Y). — Theisotypic title compounds crystallize in the orthorhombic Gd3Cu4Ge4 typestructure (space group Immm), which possesses two inequivalent Ln sites. Thetwo different Ce ions in Ce3Cu4Sn4 are both in the trivalent state. Ce3Cu4Sn4

and Gd3Cu4Sn4 exhibit multiple magnetic transitions with comparable highesttransition temperatures (10.4 and 13 K, resp.). No Kondo effect is observedfor Ce3Cu4Sn4.
