2000 rhodium, Rh rhodium, Rh I 7900 14 - 028 An ’Old’ Rhodiumsulfide with Surprising Structure Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Electronic Properties of Rh 3 S 4 . Single crystals of the title compound are prepared by reaction of Rh with RhCl 3 and sulfur (1320 K, evacuated quartz tube). A characterization of this compound is given for the first time, although Rh 3 S 4 is known since 1935. Rh 3 S 4 crystallizes in a new monoclinic structure type (space group C2/m, Z = 6). Besides strands of edge-sharing RhS 6 octahedra which are connected by S 2 pairs, the crystal structure of Rh 3 S 4 contains Rh 6 cluster rings in chair conformation. Both fragments are linked by common sulfur atoms. — (BECK, JOHANNES; HILBERT, TOBIAS; Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. 626 (2000) 1, 72-79; Inst. Anorg. Chem., Rhein.
