General Information— Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery —
1. Cemetery gates will be open to visitors every day ofthe year from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM. The cemetery willremain open until 8:00 PM on Memorial Day (the dateof State observance).
2. Cut flowers may be placed on graves at any time inmetal (not glass) containers. Flowers and temporarycontainers will be removed from graves as soon asbouquets become unsightly. During the growing sea-son when grass requires cutting, all flowers—bothfresh and those that have become unsightly—will beremoved prior to grounds maintenance.
3. Effective September 1, 1997, the Maryland VeteransCemeteries will no longer accept permanent in-groundflower vases for installation at our five facilities.
4. Artificial flowers and wreaths may be placed on gravesfrom November 1 through March 31 only. Pottedplants and holiday wreaths will be permitted on gravesonly during the period 10 days before and 10 daysafter the holiday. Christmas wreaths are permittedduring the Christmas season only, from December 1through January 31. Any Christmas flowers or wreathsremaining on graves as of February 1 will be removedand discarded. Please retrieve valuable floral arrange-ments before that date to avoid disappointment.
5. Potted plants (except as noted above), permanentplantings, statues, vigil lights, glass objects of any kind,
balloons, toys, stuffed animals, and similar commemo-rative items are not permitted on graves at any time.All unauthorized items will be removed by cemeterystaff and discarded.
6. Small United States flags will be placed on graves bycemetery staff one day preceding Memorial Day andwill be removed the following work day. Flags are notpermitted on graves at any other time.
7. Until growing conditions are favorable and the turf hasbeen established burial areas may be substandard inappearance. After the grave has stabilized, and activeburial operations have been moved to other areas, theoverall appearance of an occupied section will improve.Meanwhile, the cemetery staff requests your under-standing and asks that you refrain from placing sod orgrass seed on burial sites.
8. Complaints or questions should be brought to the atten-tion of the Cemetery Superintendent Monday throughFriday between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM.
9. Please respect the dignity of your veterans cemeteryby not littering the grounds, cutting, injuring or break-ing trees or shrubs, or using the grounds as a picnicarea. Pets, bicycling, or running on cemetery groundsis prohibited.
10.Approximate location of grave is marked in red pen.
(For most sections the directions below will apply, however, some sections are notcomplete and require assistance from cemetery staff. Please ask us!)
