    The VisionThe vision for this proposed Chehalem Park and Recreation District project is an outstanding 70+ mile trail systethat preserves and enhances the greater Chehalem Valley parks, historic heritage, native habitats, open space andconnectivity.

    Chehalem Heritage Trails will serve pedestrians, bicyclists, hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians, and willconnect numerous historical areas and natural areas. Primary trails run along major greenways: Willamette RiverHess Creek; Springbrook Creek; and Chehalem Creek. The new trail system will eventually connect to the regiontrail systems that runs along the Willamette River from the Portland area via Champoeg Park and from Willsonvto Corvallis. It will also connect to the trail system that runs from Portland to the coast via Forest Grove, Hillsbor

    and Beaverton. The overall project also includes restoration of greenways, invasive species eradication, restoratioof native vegetation, water quality improvements, and improvements to benet native sh and other species.Additional benets will be an increase in tourism and economic development, safe routes for children to get to anfrom schools, and improved health through access to recreational facilities.

    Whats Happening NowThe rst 16-mile section of this proposed trail system is currently in the planning phase. CPRD is condicting pollto gauge the publics support for making Chehalem Heritage Trails a reality.

    Benefts

    Te Chehalem Heritage rail will provide a substantial link to the Williamette Greenway. Users are envisioned as

    walkers, cyclists, canoe and kayak paddlers, boaters, naturalists and equestrians. Tis network o interconnectedmulti-modal trails will provide multiple benefts to the community and to the region.
