CHECKLIST FOR JUDO VETERANS

1. Planning – Decide which competitions you plan to take part in during the

year.

2. Calendar – When and where are the events, for more information look on

the various homepages e.g. IJFveterans.com, EJU.net.

4. Back numbers – Order back numbers if you are going to take part in the

European Championships or the World Championships and sew them on

the judogi. You may order your back numbers on the following sites:

a. http://www.mybacknumber.com/

b. http://www.ijfbacknumber.com/

5. Jumas – Judo-Management-System is the European system i.e. EJU. You

must be registered here if you are going to take part in the European

Championships, European Cup, EJU congresses and other EJU meetings as

a competitor, a team leader, a judge, an official leader etc.

N.B. This is only intended for the above-mentioned people, not their

family members or acquaintances!

6. Insurance – Make sure that you have insurance which covers you for

judo competitions.

7. Invitations – When the invitation for your planned competition is

published, read and find out what the ‘deadlines’ are.

a. When is the registration day?

b. When is the opening ceremony? c. On which day will you compete?

d. Can you compete in the team competition when it takes place?

7. Air tickets – book your flight ticket well in advance. The best ticket prices are usually available at the time of the official invitation, if you manage to do it in

time.

8. Hotel rooms – You are responsible for booking your own hotel room.

a. One can coordinate with the local organizers regarding hotel booking,

thus each person may decide on the price, place and length of stay.

b. By all means combine competitions with vacation days with the rest of your family.

9. Applications – Do not wait with your application if you have decided to take

part.

10. Judogi – Make sure that you have a white and a blue judogi of the right

size. See the IJF rules for judogi and possible exceptions for veterans.

11. Flights – If possible, take one or both judogis in your hand baggage to

avoid any surprises with missing luggage, which is always a risk when taking connecting flights.

12. Transfer – Check the transfer arrangements to/from the airport, hotel/registration.

13. Registration – Retain the receipt when paying the starting fee. Your passport will confirm your name, age and nationality.

14. Weigh-in – Take your accreditation card and passport/ID card.

15. The Draw – Check the draw sheets and the start of the match.

16. Competition day – Take with you your accreditation card.

a. Insurance documents (needed in the event of an accident).

b. Passport/ID card and EU insurance card if the competition is within the

EU.

17. The match start – Remain in the competition zone.

a. Pass the ‘suit-check’ in good time to avoid a ‘final call for…’

18. The match - The competitor and coach enter the match area. Remember

the rules for coaches and the dress code depending on whether it is an opening round or a final.

19. Prize ceremony – Always wear a white judogi.

20. Team competitions – Take place at European and World Championships,

the day after the individual competitions. Competitions are within the following age categories: 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, etc.

21. Closing – A dinner for all competitors is sometimes arranged after the team competition. By all means stay a few extra days with your family or judo friends

and experience the sights and the culture of the host city.
