Welcome to Disney • Pixar Cars: SuperchargedWahoo! Welcome back to Radiator Springs! Rev up your engines and join Lightning McQueen and his friends for some fun on these hot, new racetracks—Radiator Springs Race Circuit, the Fuel-Injected Forest, Doc’s Desert Speedway and the High-Speed Highway. Players choose their racecars—McQueen, Mater, Flo or Ramone. As they speed down the tracks, players can earn tokens to use at Luigi’s Casa Della Tires, Ramone’s House of Body Art for paint jobs and Doc’s shop for car body upgrades. These upgrades help drivers perform better and faster on each track. Drivers, start your engines: it’s race time!

Learning at All LevelsCars: Supercharged reinforces important language and literacy skills with three levels of gameplay. Young players learn best when they can play at their own pace and ability. Level 1 introduces concepts appropriate for kindergarten (5-6 years), Level 2 reinforces skills for first grade (6-7 years) and Level 3 explores second-grade (7-8 years) skills. Within each level, there is an increase in challenge designed to reinforce and expand your child’s command of letters and words.

How a Tutorial WorksA tutorial provides clear demonstrations on how to break down a skill into smaller parts. A tutorial is activated when players press the Hint button or get a number of incorrect answers. Simple prompts give the player clues to ensure future success with a specific skill. If players incorrectly spell the plural form of a word in Doc’s Desert Speedway, for example, Guido rolls in to help out. Players see both the -Y singular and -IES plural form of the word. This sequence allows time for children to notice the difference between the singular form of a word ending in -Y and its plural form. The narrator will always encourage players to do their best job and get back in the race.

DOC’S DESERT SPEEDWAYHow to PlayLightning McQueen had a tough time making the turns on this dusty desert track! Now players can put their driving skills to the test by dodging obstacles, navigating sharp turns and answering questions for extra speed. Players use the D-pad to speed up and slow down, and the A button to jump over pesky tumbleweeds. Watch out—surprise patches of loose gravel and prickly cacti can make cars spin out of control! When a question pops up, players can use a nitro boost by pressing the B button to bump into the car with the correct answer. Oh, yeah—don’t forget to pick up those tokens! Tokens can be used to get new tires/tyres or body parts to fend off desert obstacles.

Level 1: Players identify upper and lowercase letters, and identify simple sight words.

Level 2: Players get practice identifying and spelling simple plural forms.

Level 3: Players identify and spell more challenging plural forms, such as changing y to i, and irregular plural forms, such as mice, moose and feet.

What’s Being Taught?Alphabet: Players are exposed to letter names as well as their upper and lowercase forms.

High-Frequency Words: Players encounter vocabulary that appears frequently in texts for these grade levels.

Plural Forms: Players identify and spell the plural forms of common words.

Why Is This Important?Once children can quickly recognize letters, they are ready to move on and learn about letter-sound correspondence. Young children also need to build a core of high-frequency words, or words that appear frequently in many different sentences and texts. Games such as Doc’s Desert Speedway help children develop automatic recognition of these words.

RADIATOR SPRINGS RACE CIRCUITHow to PlayThis racetrack takes players on a free-wheeling ride through downtown Radiator Springs. Players press the A button to hop over puddles and the B button to make some noise at slow-moving tractors, telling them to clear the way! When players are asked a question, they can answer it by driving between the crates with the correct answer. Don’t forget to pick up tokens along the way! Players can acquire tire/tyre and auto-body part upgrades that make obstacles bounce off their cars.

Level 1: Players place letters in alphabetical order and listen for the beginning and ending sounds in words.

Level 2: Players identify short- and long-vowel sounds and diphthongs (oi, oy, ou, ow, aw, al).

Level 3: Players spell words with silent letters as well as frequently misspelled words.

What’s Being Taught?Alphabet Sequence: Players are exposed to letter names, forms and sounds, as well as the order that letters appear in the alphabet.

Letter-Sound Relationships: Players explore the relationship between letters and their corresponding sounds.

Spelling Patterns: Players identify silent letters in words and spell frequently misspelled words.

Why Is This Important?Learning letter names and letter sounds helps children become proficient readers and writers. Once children master letter-sound relationships, they can look for patterns in words. Games such as Radiator Springs Race Circuit help children actively use their knowledge of letter sounds and common spelling patterns to read and spell words.

FUEL-INJECTED FORESTHow to PlayThere’s so much to see in the forest, but watch out! These tree-lined winding roads can be treacherous, too. Using the D-pad, players can speed up, turn or slow down. Players press the A button to jump over rolling logs or thick mud puddles and the B button to do a super jump over longer obstacles. When the road splits in two, players can get on the fastest track by taking the road with the correct answer!

Level 1: Players get practice identifying simple consonant sounds, vowel sounds and common sight words.

Level 2: Players identify consonant and vowel digraphs and more difficult consonant and vowel sounds.

Level 3: Players identify contractions and common sight words.

What’s Being Taught?Letter-Sound Relationships: Players explore the relationship between letters and their corresponding sounds, including consonant digraphs (sh, th, wh, ch) and vowel digraphs (ea, oo, oa, ai, ee).

Word Structure: Players change words by adding letters or letter combinations.

Why Is This Important?Games like Fuel-Injected Forest help reinforce what children know about various consonant and vowel sounds. Repeated play helps children become more aware of letter combinations, such as consonant digraphs. Children who can quickly recognize letter combinations become more efficient readers.

HIGH-SPEED HIGHWAYHow to PlayPlayers zoom down long stretches of highway in a mad race against the clock! Players can push the A button to jump over oil slicks, traffic cones and other obstacles. When asked a spelling question, players press the B button to honk at the motor home with the correct answer.

Level 1: Players spell simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words.

Level 2: Players spell CVCe (consonant-vowel-consonant-silent e) words.

Level 3: Players identify beginning and ending consonant blends in words.

What’s Being Taught?Spelling Patterns: Players get practice identifying common patterns in words, such as consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) and consonant-vowel-consonant-silent e (CVCe).

Why Is This Important? It’s never too early to develop good spelling habits. Understanding the relationship between letters and their sounds is an important first step in learning to spell. Once children master individual letter-sound relationships, they can learn more complex letter combinations, such as consonant blends, consonant digraphs and vowel digraphs. Games such as High-Speed Highway help expand children’s knowledge of familiar spelling patterns in words.
