The journey so far.
The year was 2003, Facebook was yet to be launched and Twitter was not even
conceived, a group of Chaturvedi community members decided to have a platform
which is modern in its approach and traditional in content. The challenge was to
match the growing aspirations of the community which was future ready. On 29
December 2003 the domain was registered which reflected both modernity and
tradition. Initially it was focused at just providing contact details of Chaturvedi
members. Gradually many more features were added like Searchable directory,
personal page for each member with brief biography, cultural heritage of the
community in audio visual form. The site was liked immensely by the members and
viewership hits soon reached in lakhs.
The idea behind this initiative was further advanced by organising a hugely successful
cultural program by community members in 2013 and 2015. Various talents in the
field of art and culture were felicitated. To make our ancient scriptures reach every
community household, free distribution of audio CDs containing all 4 Vedas was done
in Delhi.
In 2016 a new version of the web site is launched with the aim of increasing people
to people contact among community members through secured login and facility for
one to one messaging among members.

Preface
This compilation of information on Doctors in our Chaturvedi community is a small effort to bring
together the best in academics, science and technology, civil and armed service among ourselves for
the benefit of Chaturvedi community. We are the torch bearers of knowledge based society from
ancient times and have carried the tradition till date.
The thought behind this effort is to create an information pool about experts in the fields of medical
science, to honour their achievements who are standing tall in these times of unfair competition and
the let the society enjoy the fruits of the knowledge of these eminent doctors for the benefit of all.
This compilation is to create a sense of reassurance for the society in the hour of need. They can
reach out to someone with confidence whenever the community members want a professional advice
or service.
We hope to enrich this data in years to come and disseminate it to all the Chaturvedi community
through various means at our command from cyber to print to telephony.
We hope you would find this effort worthwhile and benefit from it for a long time.

Leading practitioner of Ayurveda from Rajasthan, India. Previously he was a professor at Bombay University and has written many books on Ayurveda. In 2000, he was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in the India. As an active practitioner of the ancient science of Ayurveda (healing), he is known in the national and international arenas of alternate medicines and has presented numerous papers. He has held a number of conferences in India. He was, a Ph.D guide in the University of Mumbai. His role in demystifying the Neem's extraordinary ability to heal has been crucial in bringing acceptability to the Neem tree in the global context

Professor, Head and Neck Cancer Surgeon at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.
Dr Chaturvedi did his medical schooling and post -graduation in General Surgery at Banaras Hindu
University. He was adjudged the best Intern and the best post graduate during his tenure in Banaras
Hindu University. Later, he decided to work in field of surgical oncology and received his formal
training at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. He has been invited as visiting faculty in 22 institutions
in 18 countries. He is member of several prestigious national and international organizations and he
is reviewer of several leading journals and he is the editor of the Textbook of Head and Neck
Surgery. He is the Assistant Editor of the International Journal of Head and Neck surgery. He has
authored 6 book chapters and more than 100 papers in international peer reviewed journals
He started the famous Voice of Tobacco Victims Campaign (www.vovindia.org ) which has allowed
the cancer victims to voice their opinion on the issue of tobacco control. This campaign was
instrumental in ban on Gutka all over India and also increase in Tobacco Taxes in some states. He
received WHO Director General’s award in 2010 for this campaign. He represented India as Global
Cancer Ambassador to New York to lobby with UN representatives for the special UN summit on Non
Communicable diseases. He was awarded Outstanding Young Indian award for his public health
initiatives. He was selected as a speaker on behalf of the Civil Society in UN Summit on Non
Communicable diseases, 2011 in New York. He is also the recipient of the Judy Wilkenfield Award for
excellence in Tobacco Control by Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, Washington, USA. Recently he
was conferred British Medical Journal award popularly known as Oscar of Medicine. On world CSR
day he was conferred coveted Social Innovation & Iconic Leadership Award (2016).
