PRINCIPAL’S REPORT…. Welcome back to Term 4! I have returned to school after a short Long Service Leave period followed by a visit to the hospital! All is well now and I am looking forward to being involved in all the experiences that await us in this busy term! A special thank you to Ms Adams, Mrs Robinson and the Executive team who “kept the boat afloat” in my absence! Year 5 students and teachers have commenced a very important activity on our Term 4 calendar. They have started a process of nominating their peers for an opportunity to hold a student leadership position in 2019. The selected nominees (following a Year 5 vote and principal ratification) will then prepare a short speech to be delivered to the students and parents at morning assembly in Week 4 (Boy nominees on Monday, 5 November and Girl nominees on Thursday, 8 November). This activity is managed professionally by the Year 5 teachers and the Stage Coordinator, with my support. I wish the staff and students well in this very important undertaking. Two groups of students came back to school on Tuesday afternoon very excited about the day that they had just experienced. 48 Stage 3 students accompanied by Miss Parkes and Mrs Sherring spent the day at the Invictus Games and the K-2 School Spectacular Dance Group along with Mrs Skinner and Ms Archibald (driving the mini bus) had a very busy rehearsal at Hoxton Park PS. Our students certainly enjoy a very rich curriculum! Invictus Games School Spectacular Rehearsal Following the huge success of the P&C Fitness Club in 2017, places for this year’s program filled up very quickly and the first session was held last week. This program has been organised by the P&C and coordinated by Mrs Lauren Barton (Tom in 1/2N) who is a trained PE teacher. Mrs Barton’s father is sponsoring the program, which enables a high quality fitness program, followed by breakfast, to be delivered at minimum cost. We are very grateful to Mrs Barton, her Dad (McQ Smash Repairs and Sydney Caravan Repairs) and the P&C for their ongoing support of our school. We truly are blessed with a supportive school community. I am off to the NSW Primary Principals’ Conference mid- way through next week and am looking forward to some new learning and the chance to network with colleagues from across the state, ever keen to learn from others to support us to improve our practice. With my best wishes, Sandra Palmer. WORLD TEACHER’S DAY Friday, 26 October gives us an opportunity to celebrate the important role all teachers play in our society. I acknowledge all the dedicated, committed and passionate teachers at Panania PS who work tirelessly to ensure our students, your children, have an education that is broad yet deep, explicit and differentiated and where wellbeing is a critical factor (both student and staff) in ensuring that all students are known, valued and cared for. It would be wonderful if you could have a conversation with your children about the importance of recognising quality in our teachers and the critical public service role they undertake. I am very proud to be able to work alongside these remarkable people. Great teachers certainly make a difference! Mrs Palmer. INVICTUS GAMES – ‘UNCONQUERED’ Last Tuesday, 47 Stage 3 students were lucky enough to spend the day at Olympic Park watching swimming events at the Invictus Games. It was a fabulous day of learning that anything is possible if you believe you ‘can’ and have ‘support’. We were amazed at the ability shown by these athletes and enjoyed cheering them on (some of us quite loudly). There was a great feeling of community and collegiality amongst the athletes and spectators. We felt privileged to be a part of this great event. For two members of our group, it was also a great way to celebrate their birthday. Mrs P Sherring, Miss M Parkes and (Mr Ashar – Practicum Student).

THE SNACK SHACK The Canteen Committee is excited about Term 4! You may have noticed that the canteen is in the process of a new face lift. It was hoped that this would be ready for the beginning of Term 4, however the unexpected wet weather conditions have led to a few delays with the timeline. Keep an eye on the canteen and you will soon see new signage and the painting completed. Our canteen project has really been a community effort and we would like to acknowledge and give a big THANK YOU to:

Our Panania Public School parent Renae Lovett for her behind the scenes work designing our stylish new menu and logo;

Kustom Signs and Graphics for the creation and installation of the signage (Contact 0404 884 337); and

The East Hills Men's Shed for their hard work creating the blackboards and sign post for the canteen. (The East Hills Men’s Shed is available for community project works. Contact Brian Barrett 0487 700 808).

All families should have now received the following:

The new Canteen Menu for "The Snack Shack"

A note outlining the new online ordering system through "Munch Monitor".

Important reminders:

Lunch bag orders are still accepted. Please place orders in the orange drop box located at the canteen before the bell rings in the morning.

The old Canteen Menu is no longer valid. Our new look School Canteen is now called "The Snack Shack". We hope you love the alliteration and rhyme! We would like to thank the SRC committee for their efforts in consulting the student body and voting for this new name. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm to be part of this process. Our fantastic Canteen Manager "Miss Sally" also adds to this alliteration. Please come and check out "Sally's Snack Shack"!

BOOK CLUB Scholastic Book Club brochures have been sent home this week. This is the final Book Club for the year. Online orders must be submitted via the Scholastic ‘Loop’ system. Any orders with cash payments need to be returned to the Drop Box at the School Office by Thursday, 1 November. Thanking you for your support. Miss C Archibald, Book Club Coordinator.
